The guy I think this game really misses is Tarvolon. He outcoached virtually everybody on a nightly basis, and was *actually* one of the good ones, not just “when he wanted to be”, which is literally all of us.

He was super active during 3.0 beta. Like many of us, there were things he liked and things he didn’t like. I didn’t get any indication that he was so unsatisfied that he wouldn’t give it a go. But then it launched, and he just disappeared within a few months. I wasn’t in any conferences with him at the time, so maybe he did talk to some folks about it, but I don’t think I ever heard anything about it.

he was ridiculous with how many teams he played. no wonder he got burnt out! i think this one guy said he had 27 teams at once, in the early days. i can't imagine, when **** gets crazy and you have like 6 recruitings going at once... 3 hour cycles... how is it even possible?

My dad might end up being one of those coaches with more than ten teams. He just got his fourth this week. He turns sixty-two in April, and when he retires in a couple years, I imagine he'll get many more teams.

Dad really enjoys the climb from DIII to high-DI. Every time he gets relatively established at DI, he wants another team.

He didnt really get burnt out. He didnt like the changes and then couldn't get past the fact that the sim produces some crazy (and sometimes inexplicable) results.

I think recruiting in 3.0 takes much more time and attention than before so having a lot of teams now is really difficult.

gil told a great wedding story, but he put it in the wrong thread

in the spirit of this thread, ill copy/paste it here. this was in response to a 'how long were your wedding vows' jab based on the silly length of my prior post.

the entire ceremony was 10 minutes, and that includes people walking down the aisle and everything. once the pastor started talking, it was 5 minutes, maybe even less.

funny story, we were at a bar at the reception hall drinking while we waited to get called over to stand for the reception bit. the rest of the party had to go do their thing, but for whatever reason, 3 of us had no responsibilities in terms of walking grandmothers or bridesmaids down the aisle (there were more bridesmaids so i'm not sure how that happened).

so, we are sitting there having a grand old time, and about 10m goes by since everyone else departed. one of us is like, i wonder if its time, doesn't it feel like it should be time? and its like nah, that woman from the reception hall seems to know her ****, she said she'd be back for us. so we went back to it.

like 5 minutes later, some music starts playing, and it was like... wtf is going on? one groomsmen was like, do you think they would start without us? i was like well, they MIGHT start without you - but they *definitely* wouldn't start without me. so i'm pretty sure we are good. so we went back to it.

a few minutes later another song comes on and its like, ok, this is clearly walking down the aisle music. we better at least go peek. so we did. and it was like.... oh, ****, most of the wedding party is already up there. one of the groomsmen started freaking out a bit and i was like dude its fine, let's just walk out there confidently like this is the exact moment we are supposed to be, and everything will be fine. so we walk out there and it was really good timing, because right as we get there, the last couple starts coming down and almost immediately, i see my wife step around the corner, about to be walked down by her dad + stepdad.

15 seconds... that's how much time elapsed between when i was standing there and when my wife would have looked up and seen me not there. now, knowing my wife, she wouldn't have been one to be like, omg, he changed his mind, and to break down on the spot. however, i wasn't too keen on testing that theory.

could be a fun topic - best d1 recruits rated under 600, for any purpose. doesn't have to be for a team of yours, or a role for a team of yours. just a low rated player who is exceptionally good for some arbitrary situation.

role - fb/fcp SG - i see him as a top tier starter on a title contender when he grows up, with that killer d, premium stamina, and extremely dangerous 2 pt scoring.

interesting question with this guy - when hes 50 or so per, do you let him keep going if hes green? if hes blue?

I'll take this guy as a center on a title team in man or zone and any offensive system but fastbreak. Had his potential limited by a questionable coach taking over after I left, but still averaged 9/8/2 with elite defense on some Top 5 (in talent) teams.

Also, there's this weird random decimal thing I am not typing but appears with my posts now, both on my laptop and iPhone. It means nothing. I guess today's is "6.4.1"
