Just read that the Illinois Senate approved fracking today. Who would have ever thought.

Glad I don't live in Illinois. I prefer my tap water non-flammable.

Now Obama doesn't have Harry Reid to do his dirty work anymore.  I think we need to allocate $100 for extra veto stamps.

Obama has never worked with the Republicans on anything.  The only time stuff got done was when Boner capitulated on everything and gave in.
I'm excited about this. The republicans can really stick it to Obama by passing popular opinion bills like border security, Tax reform, job creation. These are all good for America.
Unless the dems use the filibuster like the GOP did.
They can't.  They voted the filibuster away when they were in charge. Why would the Repugs put it back?
That was only for judicial nominees, not normal legislation.
Sorry.  So little has gone through the Senate since 2012 that I thought it was everything.

Yeah... How ironic... The state democrats are trying to poison the water!!!

Actually - I didn't know this but 32 states allow fracking including NY, PA, MD, MI, WA, NV, and CA. That's a lot of flammable tap water.
I don't care who passes it, fracking is a bad idea.

If you are seriously that dead set against fracking, it may interest you to read this article.

Yeah, we don't care what happens in Bulgaria.

Boehner can STFU also.    They're like two children bickering in the sandbox.

"If he acts unilaterally on his own, outside of his authority, he will poison the well and there will be no chance of immigration reform moving in this Congress," Boehner said.

Obama said Wednesday he still wants Congress to pass legislation and promised that if Congress passes a bill, it would make any executive actions "go away."

But Boehner said the issue has become a "political football." Obama is said to be looking at suspending deportations for millions. To the president, Boehner said: "When you play with matches, then you take the risk of burning yourself, and he's going to burn himself if he continues to go down this path."

Education is key, and not necessarily solely for the improvement of one's career path. Michael Robinson (former Seahawks fullback) was asked "who is the most successful person you know" by a reporter. His response was that it is his high school janitor. He worked until he was fully vested in his pension, has no consumer debt and owns his home free and clear because he aggressively paid down his mortgage. He now draws full retirement benefits with almost no bills. He didn't need to become an attorney to achieve success, he just used discipline and intelligence to do so in a job that many others see as a dead-end.

Mandatory military service.   You HAVE to pay attention to what they tell you.

Eh, I don't really think that solves anything. How many guys get out of the military and are hopeless? The military teaches you to follow orders instead of thinking critically. When the service (and the orders) end, many flounder.

Completely agree. When it comes to financal literacy I have 15 years of 1st hand experiance - there are those that get it, those that are trying because they want to change their situation, and those that either just don't care or dont know any better when it comes to finances. Their are plenty of ways for those that want to educate themselves on finances - reading books, free outreach programs, even your local bank will help. You can't do anything for those that don't care. Which begs the question.... How do you reach out to those that don't even know where to start improving their financial situation, or that there is help out there?
Financial literacy can really be as simple as a basic budget and care using credit. But financial literacy does nothing if you don't make enough money to survive.

Really? I've personally helped 100's if not 1000's of people get out of that exact situation. Lots of successful people come from poverty... Opera is a great example. She used to get made fun of in school cause they were so poor she had to wear a burlap sack to school as a dress. J.K. Rowling was on welfare when she wrote her books. Suze Orman lived in her car. Chris Gardner "pursuit of happyness" was living in a public bathroom stall with his son.

It never hurts to arm yourself with the financial knowledge to help get yourself to financial freedom... And its so much more complex than just budgeting and fixing your credit.... Its a behavioral change and it takes time, support, and dedication.
Even if everyone had a basic financial education, people like Oprah and Rowling would be the exception, not the rule. 99.9% of people living in bathroom stalls are not becoming millionaires regardless of what you teach them.

Instead, we should look at normal people for examples. Lots of people get by just fine on meager salaries because they are disciplined and live within their means. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who are also disciplined in their spending and literally do everything they can but are still falling behind because they make such a small amount of money.
