First, it's by position.   If you only have one player designated with a primary position of 2B, that is your 2B in all line-ups.  After that, it seems to be some combination of splits/handedness(batting).    I don't know if I've ever seen a better defender get the start over a superior offensive player with the same primary position.

If I'm in a race for the #2 seed for the playoffs, should I go all out and not worry about resting my starters, or should I rest my starters and have them all close to 100% for when the playoffs start?

What's a good way to gauge if a player will resign with you in a contract season? If I were to win my division and my stud 1B has a patience rating of 45, is he likely to want to test FA (he's 29)
