Quote: Originally posted by SAKABAKBRG on 2/17/2009The B's are in Carolina tonight for Glen Wesley night. That's appropriate, since Wesley was one of the pieces of the trade that is still helping the B's 20+ years later:
Barry Pederson to Vancouver for Cam Neely and a 1st round pick (Glen Wesley)
Wesley was traded to Hartford for 3 1st round picks (Kyle McLaren, Jonathan Aitken, Sergei Samsonov)
McLaren and a 4th round pick were traded to San Jose for Jeff Hackett and Jeff Jillson. Hackett as a free agent, but Jillson was traded to San Jose for Brad Boyes, who later was traded to St. Louis for Dennis Wideman.
Aitken did nothing and eventually was released.
Samsonov was traded to Edmonton for Marty Reasoner, Yan Stastny, and a 2nd round pick. Reasoner as a free agent. Stastny was flipped to St. Louis for a 5th round pick (Dennis Reul), and the 2nd rounder was used to take Milan Lucic.
So, nearly 23 years after trading away Barry Pederson, this trade is still paying dividends in the form of Dennis Wideman and Milan Lucic.
Absolutely awesome bud

I just love the Wesley deal so much. B's got 7 damn good years out of him, and still cashed in to the tune of 3 1sts. Unheard of value.
All those big trades back then seemed to do well, but as we know, the free agent/system talent was never pieced together well enough to finish the deal at the end.
