PACKERS: Datone Jones is latest DL bust drafted Topic

Bob McGinn says the Packers would have drafted Matthews at #9 if Raji was off the board. Michael Oher and Brandon Pettigrew were also under consideration.

If they had, I would have been laughing hysterically.

That would have sucked. Especially with Crabtree still available.

Yeah, that info did not make me feel any better about the scouting dept.

OTA updates:

1) Donald Driver has not shown up; agent claims he is working out in Houston, no contract problems. Other reports say Double D wants yet another new contract

2) Safety Nick Collins is also absent, in part due to recent death of his father from cancer. Other reports, however, indicate that he, too, is unhappy with his deal.

3) Former DE turned 3-4 LB Aaron Kampmann has refused to talk to the media since the Packers hired Dom Capers to install the 3-4. He appears disgruntled by the change.

4) 2007 first round bust Justin Harrell is at least healthy enough to participate in the OTAs.

I'd like Kampman traded, whether he's disgruntled or not. His trade value to a 4-3 team is a lot higher than his actual value in the Packers' 3-4 defense. In my opinion.

Kampman finally spoke to the media this week, but did little to dispel the impression that he is unhappy.

Donald Driver is in camp this week; he confirmed he has made some contract requests to the team but at the same time claims he is not looking for more money. (??) Stayed home last week to attend son's kindergarten graduation. Rigghhht.

Wishful thinking but Mike Shanahan has indicated that he plans to coach again and will look to see what situations might be available at the end of the 2009 season...it's not crazy to see the Packers finishing south of .500 again and McCarthy being jettisoned.

If the Packers finish south of .500 and lose twice to Brett Fav-ruh, expect Ted Thompson to be ushered out the door with McCarthy by the unruly shareholders.

Camp opens, everyone in camp except first-round pick BJ Raji, who has not signed a contract (probably waiting for Crabtree to sign before a deal gets done.. Crabtree drafted #10, one spot after Raji, but looking for Top 5 money.. Raji's agents don't want to be in a position where Raji signs and Crabtree signs for more money afterward.)

Both punters in camp look awful, only three or four other teams even have two punters in camp so there's not much out there to choose from.

A lot of "excitement" today when Ted Thompson does not flat-out reject the notion of signing Michael Vick.

Vick ends up with the Eagles, disappointing Packer reporters everywhere.

They get some consolation when #9 overall pick BJ Raji finally comes to terms on a contract, getting (reportedly) $28M on a five year deal with $18M guaranteed.

I can't believe you didn't update this thread announcing that Tory Humphrey was placed on the DL, and the Packers filled his roster spot by signing OLB (wait for it) Stryker Sulak.

Packers win exhibition opener against Cleveland, shutting them out 17-0. First string offense looks good, Mason Crosby missed a couple of very long field goal attempts (one from 60 and one from 55), second stringers committed far too many penalties.

Matt Flynn still clearly ahead of Brian Brohm in battle for 2nd-string QB spot.

Hard to judge much from this game.

2007 first round bust Justin Harrell has more back problems, could be facing yet another surgery to repair a herniated disc, and his career may be over.

Great return on a mid-first rounder, Ted.
