Survivor III *** CHAMPION CROWNED! Topic

Congrats guys! All three of you played a great game, as far as I can tell.

One of the difficult things with Survivor in this type of setting is the potential for prior experiences to dictate early decisions and/or dominate the gameplay. Even with steps taken to minimize such activity, I think it's unavoidable. So, I'm basing my vote on who seemed to rely the least on factors outside the game.

I'm probably voting for trop, but that's not set in stone. Knee and Bastan, feel free to try and change my vote. Talk about anything you want, but I'll give you some questions that focus on my main points of contention, as I see them.

Knee: What was your advantage to vote with Bastan and not against him in the round that sent me home?

Bastan: How early either prior to or after the start of the game did you have your alliances set & how did those alliances form?

Like I told you at the time, knee, we'll see if I get to say I told you so or not...and again, you were the one guy I was true to alliance-wise the whole game. You can ask nfet and ack, they BOTH told me you would totally do something like that, and I told them both that you wouldn't do something like that to me...
The confident reply you gave me swayed the doubt from my mind!  I felt assured & was emotionally moved ;)

Knee: What was your advantage to vote with Bastan and not against him in the round that sent me home?

The advatage was 2 fold in my eyes.
1. I thought that if you were to make it all the way to the end then you would be very difficult to sit next to in fron of the jury having made it that far having never played in the LIVE game before.
2. Bastan and I had been working together and I thought staying loyal to that would help me in the eyes of the jury. There were others who were with us as well and they fell by the wayside and into the jury because we either were out numbered or we didnt know who  of us was going to get voted because had we known that I could have passed an idol earlier. That said if I play a roll in booting Bastan this late in the game it makes me a turn coat in thier eyes. You and I never were on the same tribe or had the oppertunity to build up some sort of an alliance.

To all:   Why do you deserve to win?
I both love and hate this question on the real show.  I think sometimes it's a genuine question. Other times I think the question actually is..."Why do you deserve to win and not me?"

I hate the question because, when it is the second one, the only real answer is, "Because I got here and you didn't." Unfortunately people end up mealy-mouthing it, and you end up with a really crappy answer.

I love it, because I think it does allow for some introspection for what you had to do. I built and burnt bridges along the way. I had my fingers in quite a few pies. I lost the one person I invariably talked to before every vote, toddle, and then someone else that I had secretly started working with in the Taint, and never got to execute any of my greater plans -- but still never got voted out.

I was the reason Kneeneighbor got to execute his only plan coming into the game -- Making sure he got soxyanks voted out (Sorry knee, you had to know we weren't getting through this without THAT coming out).

I found two immunity idols that were infinitely valuable in their scope, but ended up not having as much of an impact as they could have.

I was pretty highly involved on who was going when. With the excpetion of nfet...people didn't go when it came to the individual part of the game unless I wanted them to. I am sure that will also ruffle some feathers, but it's true.

And lastly, early on in the game I was very valuable as a researcher and played some pretty pivotal roles in challenges. While the record may not have been stellar I was always willing to take a crappy team during the team portion of things (and even won with them, like with the 2008 Pirates). And though I'm sure my stellar record these last couple of challenges will be highlighted (like when knee said I coasted through), I did have a pretty good run before that. And sox, you and I were taking down two straight immunity challenges prior to todd and Taint bailing...

I would say I had a solid alliance with two players after the 2nd challenge. What's funny is I wanted to bring u in as a fourth until u kinda voted a different way early against me. I knew you could fly under the radar and that it would benifet you and our group bc we would have dominated vote. I will say however josh made it hard late to keep alliances and I think this next survivor will really make the challenges matter more than prearranged friendships.

I think that was directed at me Bastan? And yeah, I totally agree. I wasn't lying to you when we played our game last challenge...We spoke before things started up big time and I know we wanted to get together if we could...you and I were on opposite team sides literally the whole challenge and it got to a point where I don't think we even could have put it together, you know?

WHY I DON'T DESERVE TO WIN:

First and foremost, I know I ****** some people off. I think that that rubs people the wrong way -- I believe the motto of the game truly is Outwit, Outlast, Outplay, and I don't regret making those moves, but I am sorry that some people took it so seriously.

I had to rely on knee FAR too heavliy for information late in the game, hence the reason why things went the way they did late. It was a necessary, but weak play on my part.

My record down the stretch was unGodly bad. Part of it was bad luck but hell, it couldn't all have been.

Finally, I couldn't protect people I needed to down the stretch in nfet and ack. To be fair, I was blindsided and didn't know, but had I done a better job keeping ducks in a row I might have figured it out.

Why I would vote for Bastan: It's really the same reason why I told knee that I never would have kept him around -- I felt like he was a guy that could win the whole thing. All his natural allies were a) gone and B) on the jury, and I didn't think that would fare well for either of us. However, apparently, what I didn't know is I was actually the one without an alliance at that point...but still. Bastan played well down the stretch in challenges too, whic was a huge improvement on how he played earlier...

As for knee...he put himself in a position of power late in the game. I disagree with his moves that he made, and prior to the end, he needed ME a lot more than I needed him, but at the end he put himself in a position where he wasn't going to get votes from anyone. That's important in the scheme of things.

Knee said: I know he feels like I stabbed him in the back by not telling him that I was going to save bastan but in reality all it did was add another vote for him in the finals as I feel like nfet is leaning that way now.

Yeah, as I said, that's the way I'm leaning, but not so much for the reason of the idol.  After I was voted out I felt it was pretty much a toss up between you and trop.  I was pretty impressed with some of the moves you made.  But, something you had said in a quick TC between us changed that.  My question gave you a bit of a chance to expand on it....thx.

I understand that complety nfet. But looking at it from my perspective I had to figure out where I was going to get my votes from. I am aware that everyone thought they could  not beat Bastan at the end, but looking at it from my perspective I couldnt win if I voted him out for sure because it would have aleinated all the others that Bastan and I worked with.

And that brings us to soxyanks and trops little comment. Tropicana asked me to vote with him and nfet and apparently one other "mystery person" who would all vote for soxyanks and get him out. I declined not knowing what tropicana had in store. You can try to pin that on me all you want but there were 2 votes for soxyanks that round and they came from you and from nfet and you passed an idol. I only wish I had known you were passing an idol and that you had a clue it wasnt you we were gunning for as we could have voted you out and soc bastn and I could have coasted to the finals as we had intended at that point.
12/16/2010 11:32 PM
heh...I'm not so sure about that.  You confirmed the plan with me.  I haven't checked back sitemails yet, but I remember it because you keeping your vote on me limited what I could do what the idol in hand.  That was one of the moves I was impressed with, i dunno if it was done intentionally or not.  I also remember thinking how sly it was that you were able to be in on it and still show your vote the other way...even sent a message to trop to see if he was cool with that.

Lost in the frucus, knee and trop, can be on anytime today, if you shoot me a sitemail. Also on now, if you wanted to jump on.

I'm on now, B, knee and I are both playing...

OK, me and knee's first game was a 4-1 win by the 1988 Orioles. Bob Milacki threw a complete game one-hit shutout....knee was 1-1 on steals, I was 0-1.

Trop wins game 1 4-1

Knee 1-1 in SB

Trop 0-1
