The Saints will have to win one away game to make the Super Bowl.   Let's not pretend it isn't a possibility because it might be cold in that game.

With their running game. NO has a chance in an outdoor setting.

SF has the tiebreaker on the Saints, so they'll have to win in SF and then in GB unless SF loses to the Rams on Sunday or GB gets upset in the divisional round.

Not saying it's not a possibility, but it's certainly not a favorable draw for them.

Now if Angelo would either be fired or quit...........

And the football gods, or the McCaskeys, grant our wish - Angelo out as GM!

Dropped the draft position from 13th to 19th, but it was the ViQueens; Angelo would have fucked up the #13 pick anyway.  Michael Floyd at #19 will suffice.

Now Martz is gone.

Does the McCaskey family hire a new GM to burn this thing down and start from scratch?  Or does Lovie get another season while the McCaskey's hire a figurehead to act as GM while they see if Lovie can get this team to the playoffs?
1/3/2012 3:54 PM
I think if the GM they REALLY want to bring in wants to fire Lovie, they'd better let him.  If they start off by limiting his power, it's a worthless hire.
1/3/2012 4:20 PM
If Lovie had ANYTHING to do with going into the season with Haney as the backup QB, he should be fired.  Martz is a dimwit who took too long to realize that you cant throw every down when you have A) Soldier Field and one of the most windy stadiums as your home turf and B) No wide receiver better than Johnny Knox.

And I agree with Muddy...   Whatever the GM wants when you hire him should be what you allow him to do.  However, that GM is then tied to the effectiveness of the coach, and he better pray that Forte and Cutler stay healthy.  Because there is little to no doubt that the Bears would have been at least challenging for a playoff spot with those guys healthy.  Once Cutler was hurt, the Bears were pretty much dead.  When Forte got hurt, they were done.

Houston is the only team that survived a back-up QB situation.
1/3/2012 5:11 PM
The Bears were riding a 4 game winning streak when Cutler got hurt, and the team (because of it's incompetant quarterbacking) lost 5 straight and was eliminated.  No other team was as severely affected by the loss of the QB as were the Bears.  Houston did ok, and Miami did BETTER with Moore than with Henne.  Miami was not a playoff contender at any point in the season, but the Bears should get rid of anyone who thought Caleb Haney could fill in and hold onto a playoff spot, or fight and win one.

In Martz's defense, he HATED Caleb Hanie and knew he sucked.  Angelo and Lovie insisted on keeping him around.

I like the firing of Angelo, but no so keen on the Martz firing. Its not his fault that the he had a crappy O-Line and  pathetic WR's to work with. Now the Cutler has to learn his 3rd playbook in 4 years. To me this is a half-*** attempt to pacify Bear fans. They should have burned the mother down, cleaned house and brought in a whole new regime.  One more thing, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ruskell is named the GM and Tice is named OC - after all the Bears are cheap fukks and they are already on payroll.
1/3/2012 7:32 PM
I don't think Ruskell will get the gig as he was Angelo's guy and I can't see George giving him the gig.  If he does, the whole thing is a wash and worthless.
1/3/2012 8:38 PM
If Ruskell is given the job, I will feel sorry for you Bears' fans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Ruskell

This is what it used to say, and was far more accurate.... stupid wikipedia:

"However, the team's record gradually declined over the next four seasons as Ruskell destroyed the roster by drafting lightweight midgets who couldn't cover a sack of beans like Kelly Jennings and overpaying past-their-prime loudmouths like T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Ruskell eventually resigned from his position as the Seahawks' President of Football Operations on December 2, 2009 when he realized he was completely imcompetent. At the time, the Seahawks were 4-7 and finished with a 4-12 record the year before"
