Can too much depth be a bad thing? Do MikeT23 prefer to have 8 top solid position players, or 14 players who can all play, but are not as clear cut starters?

My roster usually consists of 4-6 clear cut starters, 2 capable catchers, 1 utility guy(a SS in a pinch although he may be a starter at another position) and a collection of platoon/part-time guys.   Given my choice, I'd take 8 clear cut starters all day.  But I play in worlds where you can't build super teams so clear cut starters aren't that simple to come by.

If you had the #6 pick in the draft, and were so unimpressed by the draft class you were dealing with that you felt that you would be disappointed with whoever you got at #6, would you consider drafting an unsignable guy and just take your chances for a better class next season with a type D at #7?

Yes, I played that game last year in hopes of landing a big IFA.   Ending up giving my draft pick a 12m signing bonus.  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Greg Wood  It's not that he's a bad player, I was just hoping to land that big IFA fish and get the #5 pick this season.   I actually like the top 4 I'm seeing so that would have been a huge score.   Sadly, it did not happen.
