"I would bet in real life a very high percentage of players agents enter negotiations with the players current team, and if the team would meet their demands the player would stay, it is just most teams can't offer what the Red Sox and Yankees can pay, but in HBD all teams can.."

Except that we can see how it actually works in the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. Favre is a Viking. Seau is a Patriot. Shaq is a Cav (his 5th team). King James is out of Cleveland in a year. Even Brady and Manning will probably end their careers somewhere else. But Rivera, Jeter, Posada... they'll all die in pinstripes and be burried in Yankee stadium, because the Yanks can throw money at problems and overpay aging players, etc.

In real life, what happens when all the teams have the same amount of money is that agents get in players' ears and convince them that by hitting the FA market, they can create a bidding war and get a few more bucks. And the player listens.

The point is, guys like Jeter, Rivera, and Posada don't stay with the Yanks because they love the Yanks, or because they love winning. They stay because they get paid. Look what happens when the Marlins win a WS: everyone's gone in 2 years. Because no one wants to give a discount and win. They want a few extra bucks.

That said, I would have no problem making this a factor in deciding between max contracts in favor of the original team.

That arguement is floored on so many factual levels i just can't be bothered to point them all out. There's also a misguided belief that there is always FA quality every year, which clearly isn't the case.

First, the Red Sox have had susperstar FA pitchin leave - his name was Pedro Martinez and he was the Yamil Pulido of actual MLB. He also wanted as much money as he could get, with as many years as he could get.

Since erff is on record, multiple times, as being unwilling to offer a max deal, I think Yamil is totally justified in going FA; he's seeking max value. He'd resign after rollover if erff offered the max. Based on the tiebreakers, erff could not lose, if he were to offer the max deal.

some players will test the market no matter what. they don't give you the option to offer anything.

i kept checking his demands all year in a wild hope he'd change his mind though and alas he never did. i like the update where more good FA decide to go FA but it has bugged me a little that a guy on a very successful team making the playoffs year in and year out would be just as likely to bail as a guy on crap team. for example how many real life FA choose to leave the Yankees or Red Sox? even this year Damon and godziyya have said they don't want to leave. So i thought well maybe if i make the WS again he'll change his mind (i know i dreaming) and i did make it but he's still leaving.

just a little *****. still happy with the way it is overall just seems like a little player loyalty like that would be nice to be programmed in. edit: never went to arb. signed long term right away.
Funny thing about ballplayers as far as not wanting to leave the Yanks. Winning is one thing but some players have other priorities. I think it was John Flaherty who said he didn't want to be traded because the Yankees had, far and away, the best after game buffet of any team he had ever been on! He said he got really ticked off at a teammate after that player flipped the table after a bad game. I mean, losing a game is one thing, but flipping the buffet table? Inexcusable.

Sure, but given the fact that WP% is the #1 tiebreaker, if erff offered the max deal in FA, Yamil would (99.9%) sign with him.

This is really about the fact that erff doesn't want to pay market value for the guy who just threw a 2 hit shutout in the first game of the MLB WS, against the best offensive team in the league
