What about the players who's career was in midstream when the world started. How would those players figure in? Example, when the world started, a player was 31 years old, had 5 great seasons out of 6 when he retired, with 2 MVPs, 5 All Star appearances, 2 Silver Sluggers and a Gold Glove, for example.

I'd imagine one would have to nominate him...?

EDIT: Or what patrick said........

It would probably be nice, but perhaps a programming nightmare, if owners in their first season in a world can't vote. Eliminates the possibility of "one and done" guys voting players into the HOF.

Don't imagine. patrick posted this:

User nominations-
Position players: 10+ years of ML experience with 400+ PA per season.
Relief pitchers: 10+ years of ML experience with 50+ IP per season.
Starting pitchers: 10+ years of ML experience with 150+ IP per season.

Yes, I also saw his post right above mine.

I'm not very bright.

We've covered this.

Problem: Some Worlds have 7-10 new owners in a given season (which is a whole other problem for a whole other thread), but that would make it very hard to get anyone in the HOF in years where that much turnove happened.

They would still be eligible for 5 seasons. Of course, if it's 7-10 every season, and it's a different 7-10 every season, you've got a problem. But, if you have a core of 22, it can be done. The core would just have to be very attentive to the process.

is 150+ IP a strict, per-season requirement? or is it cumulative, i.e., 1500 IPs over 10 seasons?

the great hawk walker's eligibility depends on it. i want no part of a hall of fame that he's not in.

i think the thresholds for user-nominations are way too low...there are only 6 pitchers in the real HOF with less than 2000 IP (Dizzy Dean, Goose Gossage, Rollie Fingers, Babe Ruth, Bruce Sutter, and Satchel Paige)...2000 IP should be the minimum for starters if not 2500 IP...relievers should be at least 750 IP if not 1000 IP

We don't want to limit this feature for owners who have not accumulated enough seasons. It's a fun process and we want everyone to be involved, regardless of experience. There are some features that I have not discussed that will allow the vets to help out the new owners come voting time.

All SPs have to average 150IPs per season that they played in.

on the flip side, i think some of the auto-nom numbers are too high for pitchers...250 W and 2500 K seem more realistic to me...as for hitters, 500 HR probably too low (at least for players from the steroid era)

bighead: if we find that the thresholds are too high, changing them is very easy.

We like the direction it is going in now and we have already populated the lists on the production database. We found that very few player's were automatically nominated and a lot of players were eligible. Both of these scenarios are what we expected and wanted.

i'm just going to assume that there will be an exemption for hawk walker, who is the most important player in HBD history.
1/13/2010 11:00 AM
Also, keep in mind that the guys who are auto-nominated are not auto-inducted. They just get put on the voting list automatically along with the user nominations.

A lot of this will make more sense once you actually get to play with it.

Can we write our own player bios that will accompany their likeness in the hall?
