Especially since they decreed 500 homers is a criteria, we're going to get a disproportionate number of 1B in the first batch, unless each world self-regulates.

All-Star appearances are interesting. Basically, you just have to be one of the top TWO at your position in your league during a given season. That may sound easy, but depending on how stacked that position is, you might never make it even if you're the 3rd best 2B for ten straight years.

It ain't like MLB where they can take 5 firstbasemen because they're just pinch hitters or DHs. In Ruth, only 13 players hit the 7 All-Star Game threshhold, and since Marvin Aurilia dominated the ASG selections for his entire career, THREE guys hit 600 homers and didn't make more than 3 ASGs.

The selection process is different in HBD, with the SIM making the choices based on its own criteria. If there was some sort of manager voting, and roster flexibility, I think it would be more meaningful. As it is, 5 or 6 All-Star games probably means you should be strongly considered, but 1-3 could easily mean you were a worthy candidate who just got snubbed a bunch of times. I think this is especially true at premium defensive positions, where slugging players can seemingly make an almost unlimited number of bad defensive plays and still get AS nods over slightly less great offensive players with legit D skills for the position. Throw a DH with PC 25 in as a starter at Catcher, and if he hits for a .950 OPS or better, he'll be an AS, nevermind your staff's 6.25 ERA.

The SIM should select the first 22 guys and let the last 3 be voted in by everyone. Have them compile a list of 15 or so to be voted on. Not perfect, but not terrible.

I took a look at him and thought "borderline" as well. He strikes me as the type of guy that would get in on his 4th or 5th try, provided one of those years had a weak ballot. Few would question him being there once he made it, but he wouldn't be the first name on anyone's lips.

I also have a guy who might be hurt by lack of awards. I don't like how the SIM selects the 2 best RF, 2 best LF and 2 best CF for the All-Star team. It should be the 6 best outfielders total, regardless of primary position (since its only one meaningless game). One of my players for several years was one of the top 3 or 4 outfielders in my world, but because the 2 guys in front of him also played field, he always got shut out of the All-Star Game. There were a few seasons where he finished top 5 in MVP voting, but didn't make the All-Star team. In the SIM's defense though, there were other seasons where I'd move him around to different positions out of necessity, and I also waited too long to convert him to 1B once his outfield limitations started coming to the forefront.

One other major limiting factor, out of the 13 players in Ruth with 7+ AllStar games, only TWO have actually retired, meaning that the initial class of eligibles may be significantly smaller than we thought. [ONE POINT, Ruth didn't have an All-star game in season 1, so I'm going to add in some players with six ASG appearances.

I'm checking on the Silver Slugger criteria, and should be able to report back later.

We'll wait here.

Good to know.

Quit dillydallying. I'm waiting.

I'd vote for him. how many HBD second baseman have 400 hrs my guess is not all that many. One more thing to consider if you are in to judging on awards is where he placed on the MVP ballot. I would be surprised if he wasn't on it a couple seasons.

I think he'd be borderline for me, and a lot would depend on the level of stats in your World. He's in one of the older Worlds, so the "steroid/training bug" had the *chance* to have maximum impact in it, so the overall numbers may be very skewed.

I'd have to suspect that is at least partially the case for Jamey to not make the AS game in some of the seasons he put up. Four of each position make the AS game each year, and while he may have lost a couple opportunities due to his flexibility and multiple positions, I'd still have expected him to be among the top 2 in his league at his position more than twice, given his numbers.

He's the type of player that is very dependent on World, in my mind. In the World I am most familiar with, we're only in S10, so only got a half-season of the steroid bug, and his numbers would earn him a HOF vote in my mind - but he'd also probably have 6-7 AS appearances in my World, given his numbers.

Google "Nykesha Sales" and learn how she became the all-time leading scorer in the UConn women's basketball program.

Mike's doing the HBD equivalent.

I remember that... it's why nobody takes women's sports seriously! :)
What they did with that basket was kind of silly and ridiculous. However, to make this about women's sports in general, while ignoring, for example, Favre/Strahan, is not cool. People don't take women's sports seriously for lots of reasons. This is not one of them
I guess there's no room for kidding around on the innerwebs....... must be serious all the time.

Noted.

OK, there are six players with 7+ Silver Sluggers, four of which were on the ASG list, none of whom have actually retired.

The retired thing is going to make for a LOT fewer initial nominees than most seem to think.

The top aces in most mature worlds are in their late 30s or early 40s, and thanks to the training bug, many are still going strong.

Despite the training bug, offensive numbers were repressed pretty well by the owner. One player his 600+ homers. Fifth on the list is 539. Highest career BA is .340 with .322 coming in 5th.

Which is why, as a MIF, I think Cambridge probably qualifies.

2000 hits, 400 HRs ... nice numbers for a 2B... and .300+ career avg helps his case, but playing a premium defensive position (and playing it reasonably well) might sway people in favour of him.

So... it took three pages to come to the same conclusion I did in post #3?
