if both team get better, why would i object, its a win-win deal. i'd be doing a diservice to the league if i handcuffed owners from making logical deals.

You just said it right there. How did the team that got the tryout camp pitcher get better?

so one team got a 40 inning releif pitcher and the other team got some cap relief. maybe they needed it to sign a draft pick or an extra million to toss at an international. maybe the team moving the rp, just wanted to make room for a player coming off the DL. sounds like a perfectly logical deal.
one team traded an asset for another asset.

Cap relief doesn't get make anyone better. It just gives that a little money. 2.5m transferred to prospect = 1m. That's not value for value.

That's your opinion. Opinions vary.

"So long-time members should be given "special" privileges when it comes to trade? They should be allowed to make deals that will bring about a veto for newer members? Do you really think that's a good idea?"

Is this a reply to my post (where I gave about 5 reasons why the trade looks fine)?

I believe this was in response to this post.

"jptrainwreck has been to the playoffs 21 times and won two WS. I think he might have an idea of what he's doing. I don't understand why some owners feel like they need to become the hall monitor of leagues they have only been a part of for a few seasons."

A side note to MikeT's response about vetoes. The person who started this conversation about this trade choose not to veto it. So it begs the question why are you complaining about it in the forums, when the issue was not raised in the league at the time of the trade?

OK, to be clear, you'd have no issue if I traded a Cy Young candidate, a MVP candidate and an All-Star CF from my otherwise talentless 46-62 team to your divisional rival for a training camp pitcher?

You'd accept, if you even bothered to questioned me, "I'm not winning with them so I can lose without them. I'll use the 10m in new cap space to turn it into 5m thus giving me a better chance to land a big IFA"?

Can't say I disagree.

Actually I did veto it. Discussed it via trade chat with about 80 trade chats being exchanged and 20 or so text messages exchanged with some owners. Read the original post genius, I was clearly trying to see what other worlds and commishes policies are on this. What else you got?

Wow ... just wow. Way to read.

im mostly in favor of these type of salary dumps (unless it's clear they are being used in tanking type behavior)

alot of the time if the player didn't have options the owner would simply waive them, end of story...i don't see how swapping him out for a token player is any different...

to make it fair if an owner wants to do this type of deal he should have the courtesy to advertise his desire to dump the guy in the world chat, at least attempting to get something in return...
2/14/2010 10:24 PM
That no longer applies, schuyler. Now you can demote the player and then waive him to get him off the 40.

Since it appears that the replacement troll decides to snip posts while trolling.

A lot of people believe landing a big IFA makes them better.
