need help with waives/release/desginate Topic

And in this instance, when you're trying to trade the guy, it's absolutely stupid to risk hurting his ratings (and so hurting the chances of dealing him) to try and improve your chances of winning a AAA game - hence the designate rather than demote, then waive.

Also, if deanod is right that this is the guy, the I think the OP just didn't try offering him around enough, because that's a damn fine pitcher, regardless of contract, to be given away on the WW.

That is not what he wants to do(you'd know this if you read his posts).

If a demotion penalty kills a player's BL chances, he didn't have a BL career to kill.

I tend to answer their immediate questions. If they have more, they can ask them. You have to learn somewhere.

Here's why I say "demote" instead of "designate": A designated player goes into a holding period. In the end, he's going to AAA if no one claims him. If I'm paying him, I want to utilize him.

are you sure? it seems that he wants to unload the salary, not purge him from the ML roster.

If deano is right about the guy, I have no idea why the OP thinks he's in full rebuild mode. He's 57-44.

This is a good point, though looking back over the OP's posts, he doesn't actually say he is rebuilding (though that's a fair assumption). In any event, it's more likely someone from the Florida Flailers.

I'd love to try to trade with zbrent.

"Ok, how about this guy?"
"Whoa, wait just a minute. I see his third pitch is a 69. He's no BL player. If it was a 70, we could talk."

assuming i have the right guy, here's how i'm guessing things went down: previous owner signs LT extension, ericwoody begrudgingly deals with it. after starting off 57-44 no thanks to otanez's 4.77 ERA, he decides he can win without him and would rather have his contract off the books.

so maybe he plans to dump him and then trade for a vet on a shorter contract, i dunno. but if he's going to pay him, he's undoubtedly more useful at the ML level than AAA, and that's a fact jack.

um, nevermind, missed that tidbit. i just checked one team and saw a guy who fit the bill so i stopped.

it is probably This Guy then, and he's not quite as good.

Because you've been rambling on about risking a demotion penalty. Seems to me you would get all constipated over a point here or a point there in ratings.
