1888 Elton Chamberlain: 2 inning closer Topic

You could try using him as a closer to maximize his quality appearences, but you wont maximize his appearences.. but that might not be a bad thing if you are using him as a spot starter. Either way will be effective, just depends on how you want to use him!

To me, this is one of the big problems. In my mind, Setup B should be a guy who comes in to pitch either the 6-7th inning of a close game, or when your team is down by 1-3 runs, but it seems like he's just a guy to come in after the Setup A guy or in other close lead situations.

Are you guys saying that Long B is currently the setting I described above?

B follows A

in Long situations, rested Bs don't come in till all rested As have been used

in Setup situations, rested Bs don't come in till all rested As have been used

PLUSWISE

if all you have is rightie As, say, they come in alphabetical

but not by last name, by first! thus simulating randomness cheaply for the programmer

I am changing the settings a bit.

Changing:

Pinch Hitting to 2 (Infrequent)
Double Switch to 5 (Very Aggressive)

I am going to do what jfranco suggested and set him to come in in the 7th.

Bilfert, very interesting and valuable commentary here. I will change my settings an re-evaluate many things based on this thread. Many, many thanks.

I am not sure why Sparky is not double switching.

Manny Sanguillen ended the inning in this game and I have Mike Redmond on the bench who has both great defense and good average. It seems that Sparky is assuming that Elton will get the save or be ready to be yanked for a PH if he were to give up the lead.

Set your double switch to 5 and uncheck Chamberlain's individual PH setting in the hitting Advanced Settings.

That will maximize the chance of him entering via a double switch, and will not allow him to be pinch-hit for, in the event his spot comes up.

I will look at the advanced settings. Double switch setting is at 5. I am not completely interested in him hitting for himself as I have bats with defense on the bench. I am more interested in the double switch.

This is where the "Inning Availble" setting comes most in handy...

This game is super frustrating and may deserve a ticket to Admin. Not only does he not enter the game in the top of the 7th in a save situation but he is also not brought in to clean up the mess in the 7th with the save situation still in hand. Finally, I cannot believe that he is not Double Switched for considering he was up 1st in the next inning and the game tied. This seems to be the textbook moment for Sparky to Double switch.

Please keep in mind that I have a nice bench with players that hit for average and have A/A Defense/Range and my Double Switch setting is 5.

I think you should send in a ticket, forget the "may deserve"... It was a save situation and Elton should have come in. that's question #1. Question #2 is the obvious "why didn't sparky use the double switch?" You can't set it any higher. I'm going to start paying more attention to my own box scores and appreciate your keeping this post updated. Very interesting.

I have submitted a ticket, lets see what they say.
