Tell me what coach, anywhere, ever, would tell Reggie miller NOT to take a wide open three unharassed save in special end of game circumstances?
Of course I meant 3-pt shots.
Seriously guys. The real life comparison is dumb for multiple reasons, but here are the big two: (1) nothing is ever equal and (2) there is no such thing as a +/- in real life. In real life, people shoot because their "rating" is high, I agree. But again, that's because there's NO SUCH THING as a +/-. If there was, it would affect the amount of shots they take.
The reason Miller would shoot more shots is undoubtedly because he's a better 3-point shooter. But if we're going to continue this ludicrous real-life analogy, the frequency is literally because he has a higher +, not a higher rating. To the bolded part, you're right, and because of that, he would be a +2. Tony Parker would not. That's why this whole thing is stupid.
The rating no doubt affects where a coach sets the +/-, but it shouldn't have any affect on
how many shots are taken, "all else being equal." If I set my 8 per SG to +2, then I want him jacking up as many 3-point shots as he can. That might make me stupid, but that's what I want. It's not the sim's job to coach for me, it's the sim's job to implement my coaching plan.
And hughes, read the whole thread before you chime in - or don't chime in with something already addressed, at least. The positional difference has already been addressed, that's not what we're discussing.
