The Big 12 splits half of the revenue depending on which teams appear in the games. Several other conferences do this as well. It's not just the Texas schools demanding a larger share simply because they're from Texas.

If Missouri's only national exposure is twice a year on the Fox Sports Channel they get a far smaller piece of the pie than Texas if the Longhorns play 8 times a year on ABC.

Build up your program to warrant televised games and you'll get a larger share of the revenues.

I'm not challenging that it wouldn't be. And the same can be said for Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State. Actually any of those schools outside of Univ. of Texas would probably add an instant $10-15 million to their bottom line if the Big Ten would take them.

kansas and k st would be horrified to join the MWC

Texas would add a ton to their bottom line, too.

Kansas could be more likely to go to the Big east than the MWC.. Yes I know it is 1000 miles, but that is the mindset in lawrence

I agree Kansas and K.State would never go to the MWC, but wouldn't MWC schools join Kansas/K.State/ Colorado, etc. in the Big 12, wouldn't they then get a BCS game?

What their proud alums don't realize is that recruits only care about their lifetime...they don't know about Notre Dame's history. After 4 or 5 medicore seasons,  the recruits consider you just like any other middling school. An interesting scenario, though. If the Big 10 expands to 16 teams, the SEC will probably expand, too.  Schools mentioned are Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State and Miami. The remaining ACC/Big East schools could then merge for self-preservation

Georgia Tech and Clemson are two obvious ones for me. Both bring rival games that are already in conference (UGA, SC) and both are good enough academically,

Good enough academically? For the SEC?

Exactly how bad do you need to be academically to get turned down by the SEC?

So wait, Louisville isn't good enough academically to compete with the likes of Mississippi State or Auburn?

We are talking about addition, not what is already in the SEC. Why would the SEC pick up Louisville, who is subpar academically, has below standard facilities and wouldn't bring a huge fan base? What else do they offer?

SEC is going to pick up (if they do) a school that is completely rounded. Academically, facilities, rivalries and fanbases all will come into play when deciding.

That was merely my point, and you're trying to turn it into something else.

Is there much of a reason for the SEC to expand? I mean, I can see the Big 10 wanting to expand to drive cable subscriptions to the Big 10 Network and also to add a championship game.

However, the SEC already has a championship game and as the SEC doesn't have a network, would their deals go up appreciably if they added more teams? Outside of adding Texas, I don't see any other schools that would add much value to that conference.

Gotcha, I just don't think academics is anywhere near the top of the list of what the SEC is concerned about.
