Just a random thought-- how many years were the guys asking for who took an extra year?  Maybe it's increasing the overall value of the deal by a certain percentage.

I'd have to go back and see if I can figure it out...I'm guessing from a 3 t o a 4 year deal.  It seems like I've gone from 2 to 3, but I can't say for certain.

Kim was asking for three years, and I gave him a fourth plus more money (which was necessary). Miles was asking for two years, and he accepted a third year at the same amount as his asking price. Kim was 30 at the time, and Miles was 33.

Update-- I just signed a guy by increasing the total value of the contract by exactly 50% over demand (in this case, from 16.2M/3 years to 24.3/4years).  I'm beginning to think that 150% of demand is the "surprise me" level.
