DI C- prestige school. Have a chance at a 4 star? Topic

Honestly, your gonna turn over 11 kids in the next 2 seasons..... I would think with $90,000+ recruiting cash each year you could get 4-5 high potential decent guys each season, and 3 seasons from now have a real competetive team.... One nice kid this season and nothing else... looks to me like it does alot more harm than good. You might be able to bring in 2-3 kids both years, who would finish close to where this one will end up anyway.... 4 little stars by a guys name doesn't make him a game changer for you.

If he really is a stud with high potential in his cores... you can be pretty sure a high prestige team will take him from you with minimal effort.

I don't see much of a problem with this.  Publicly saying what you are going to do is ok with me.  Offering anything, negotiating, etc is off limits, as is any kind of quid pro quo, but if you want to post on your CC that I am putting everything into #15 SG Mike Davis, that is giving away confidential information and can only hurt you.
i don't really agree with this sentiment. what if he was an a+ school, and named 3 local targets he was dead-set on signing? i guess people might get ****** off over time and gang up on him, but i have been in many situations where i felt naming some of my targets would help me, and have decided not to because it seems unethical to me. people used to sitemail me all the time asking who i was going after so they could steer clear, so i have to believe some people would do it off a CC post as well.

that said, i pretty much have no problem if somebody reveals their recruiting strategy for the primary purpose of learning something.

Gillispie, I think there is a HUGE difference between a coaches corner and sitemail.

Sitemail here is 100% a violation of ethics in my mind.  But if you want to put something out there is public, like I am going after the #1 center this year, that seems ok to me.  Its public knowledge now, and you may have helped or hurt your cause.

As long as there is no posting I am going after the #1 center, so you can go after the #1 PF type of stuff, that is fine.  Its going to be obvious quickly to people watching closely anyway, and who knows what you are going to say is the truth.

People steer clear of the big boys with or without prior warning anyway.

Here my 2 cents:

I had 8 ships open for wyoming last season.  I signed 4.  One of them took a lot effort (#2 overall player). i spent a lot of my remaining on a player i did not sign I had 4 walk ons.  I went 1-26

reinsel - i 100% agree sitemail/CC are totally different. i was merely saying that based on the # of people who sitemailed me, if i posted in the CC at some of my schools (like when i was at texas a&m with minimal local competition), i think a lot of people would have saw it and steered clear. maybe they wouldn't know if it was the truth or not, but telling the truth seems like it would have been a huge advantage for me, and after you do it once and tell the truth, people are going to catch on. i think in an area like where i am at with kentucky, with the best of the big 10 being near me, as well as the top 2 confs by far in the big east and acc, such a strategy wouldn't work. but at both colorado and texas a&m i think it would have been a very unfair advantage. i guess if nobody has a problem with it, i could give it a try - but i don't have a school in the right setting right now i think.

i know that people do steer clear of the big boys - but you still get competition in cycle 1 because nobody knows who you are going for. for example, at UK this year, i went for a local 4 star. i spent like 6k on him or something and TN, a conf mate, was on him too. i spent the extra 6 or 8k or something to knock him off, and as expected, he never spent another dime. but if i had posted in my CC, hey, i like player X, i am going to sign him, i would have saved that extra 6-8k or whatever it was. i think in particular, i could list all the 4 stars and lower within 200 miles i was going for... who would waste their money on those players then? i could see people going for 5 stars anyway, but i don't see people wasting their money on 2/3/4 stars against an a+ school within 200 miles of a guy. the only way i can see it hurting me is if people got ****** at me for doing it and intentionally ganged up on me - which is possible, but if they talked about it, even in the CC, it would be collusion.

However. If someone said they are going all out for a player that Kentucky was after, people would know that they were in for the battle. Knowing that you were in for the batlle on one player some coaches would be more likely to battle you on players they like. And it wouldnt be collusion.

It can be done, but it takes some luck if nothing else.  A few seasons ago I signed a 4-star at C prestige Iowa, no one else ever showed up on him, I think I was lucky nobody in the A or even B range really wanted him, a lot just depends on what other people are doing, and I think it's too hard to predict.
