Dumbest Move You've Ever Made Topic

1st season ever.  Made some dumb FA signings, but that's not a big deal

Drafting #1 overall and grabbing a guy who was questionable at best to sign was horrible.  He didn't sign, and that was back when the resulting comp. pick was at the bottom of the 1st round.  Luckily I still turned Tacoma around...but maybe w/a real #1 player from that draft, I would have made the WS instead of the NLCS all these years

Rule 5 in Metropolis has been brutal for me.

In Season 5 I lost Mark Olsen and Derrick Doster because I waited until the last minute trying to work out a trade to free up spots on the 40 and didn't get it done in time.

This past season I lost Santiago Lira because China can't figure out how to work the internet.

I joined one of the original worlds in Season 2 and inherited a pitching staff with no endurance. I got ****** off that my entire pitching staff was fried (loads of zeros) and I retaliated against malign fate by releasing two expensive (and highly talented) players so I could sign more pitchers. Except, of course, under the rules I was still responsible for their entire salaries except the $327 minimum.

Oh man have I had some good chuckles reading this thread.  Only because I've made some similar boneheaded moves.  Trading future all star regulars to get a one year bat or arm.  But the one that comes to mind most, was a trade I made and didn't assign the player for a week and lost him to the waiver wire.  So, I lost a great pitcher, plus the great players I traded for him.

Another one was taking over a team that went to the World Series.  I saw all these studs on the team, so I thought it was a no brainer to take it over.  The world rolled over and all, and I mean ALL my free agents said they wanted free agency and wouldn't resign.  I didn't budget enough for that and as a result I had 10 1st round draft picks.  Well, didn't set the budget for that either.  Long story short, still made it to the WS, but wasn't able to sign half the draft picks.

Lol. I remember your "frustration" and consequent posts.

I botched the draft one season. I copied all the prospects into Excel, but somewhere in converting the raw paste to my template I shifted the columns one over. The change wasn't bad enough for me to notice (i.e. is wan't like the top pre-rank were turds and the 300s guys studs), but enough that I bumped up guys I shouldn't have, bumped down guys who were better, and got a lousy 1st round pick

The first season I had a team (world season 4), traded what turned out to be a top reliever for an average catcher (panicked due to having absolutely no depth at that position, and could have gotten the same in free agency just prior to the season without losing the good arm).
