Grant Hill at #85 was a steal.  I agonized over him at 72/73 but couldn't pass up Derek Harper or Bob Lanier.

i pulled the trigger on dumars to pair up with payton. that 96-97 season of his is a jewel! 166-3's @ 54% efg swayed me. low t.o.'s and fouls and a decent amount of free throws. def pretty good. almost went with another guy. would never have found ol joe if i hadn't  set my search criteria as: sg-100%, 40%-3pt%, 350-3PA, def-70, ft% -80, topg - 2. ast%-15, usage%-15-19. that got me a fairly large pool of players, but just 2 guys not drafted yet. was an easy choice.

these five guys right now: lots of boards, 3's, enough dimes, good def, decent efg%, 106% tot usage, lots of free throws, low to's and fouls... all equates to a losing squad. haha.

I'm never really a fan of teams whose worst shooters are its highest usage guys, but it's not like Payton and Haywood are awful shooters. And you have McAdoo there to pick them up. Clearly your team can hit the boards well, though.

Been a while since I can remember someone building a really successful team using Haywood. Not sure if he's a great piece at this cap, but I suppose we'll see.

Pretty happy about my own team so far:

PG Penny Hardaway
SG Clyde Drexler
SF Larry Bird
PF Pau Gasol
C Marcus Camby

We're pretty solid on rebounding, but probably not above average at this cap. More than enough assists. Have a decent number of threes, but will need more from the bench. Not a ton of FT, but shoot them at a very high percentage. Scoring is a definite strength - plenty of usage (honestly maybe even a touch too much for the starting lineup - will probably go lower usage off the bench) and extremely efficient - everyone has efg% over 52% except Camby, and he has by far the lowest usage of the starting five. Defense isn't amazing at this cap, but everyone so far is 70+ and three guys 80+ so no real weak spots there.

A couple random thoughts:

-haven't used him very much - and maybe this season will change my mind - but I really think we underrate Penny as a group. He should definitely go before the 4th round.

-more than any other SIM team I can remember building recently, I feel like this team would have been absolutely sick in real life. Perfect blend of power and style, offense and defense.

"I'm never really a fan of teams whose worst shooters are its highest usage guys"

worst shooters? i don't see them that way.

Haywood and Payton are the lowest efg% guys on your team. That was my only point - 2 of your big 3 scorers have efg% that would probably qualify as below average in this league. Not super low - as I pointed out - but low enough that you might struggle to score consistently compared to other teams.

i dont think so... thats like saying, jordan, wade, kobe, kidd, mcgrady, etc suck... they'll be fine, tar, thanks for the eval

Looks like my starting 5 are:

John Stockton
Walt Frazier
Nick Anderson
Karl Malone
Tyson Chandler

103 usage, 33 combined ORB, 82 combined DRB, 98 combined AST%, average EFG is 57%; only turnover liability is Chandler, but his usage is only 12.6; 2 defenders in the 70s, one in the 80s, 2 in the 90s; 326 3 pointers made; 1368 Free throws made(but only 72% FT PCT); no huge foul issues

Hopefully I don't get "D.A.L" again.....that stands for dead a** last

lol - you're overexaggerating, man. Never said anybody sucked, just that I don't like when the higher usage guys on the team are the ones that are less efficient.

also, basically everbody on that list has an efg% higher than the Payton and Haywood seasons you're using. Guys like Jordan and Kidd, significantly higher. But the point is, guys who are at 50% or below 50% have below average efg% for this league. No one is saying those guys aren't usable or suck. Just saying they have below average efg% for a 52 mil draft league, and they're 2 of your 3 highest-usage guys. Clearly your team's strength is not offensive efficiency, but you have plenty of other things to make up for that, mainly rebounding.

great efficiency, but you'll need usage off the bench...little low in that regard IMO. Also your backcourt is going to get torched on defense.

edited to add: eh, I guess if you're going halfcourt the usage is fine, which you may do considering how efficient your team is already. I'm just used to up-tempo teams.
6/21/2011 1:27 PM (edited)
I have around 9 million left to work with.
6/21/2011 1:28 PM
he's fine up tempo.  12.5 or 13 usage points.

i actually agree with tarheel about your team, scud... though it's still a winner.
