I thought that maybe everyone had forgotten about Deke since he normally goes late 1/early 2.  I almost took him in round 2, but his best season (imo) had its defense nerfed to 70-something... which just really set me off.
I'm tired of taking him in every league!

At this point i like 99-00 is that the season you are talking about

If that's the one with around 40-41% creb, then yeah.

A few quick evals:

sixernuggets: Dennis Rodman, Kevin Durant, Bob McAdoo

Rodman is a great guy to build around, and these are good players to match with him. Durant should be gone before now - I would take him before Kobe. Better efg%, better rebounding, tons of FT at amazing 90%. I assume you're playing Durant and Rodman at the 2/3 - if so this sets up to be a monster rebounding team. If you're playing these three at the 3/4/5 it's not as good, but still not bad. Pick the right McAdoo season and this is a very good start.

jweb: Michael Jordan, Gerald Wallace, Bob Lanier

Oh my - this is a fearsome start. Jordan/Wallace at the 2/3 is fantastic, and you could even play them at the 1/2 or 1/3 if you wanted, which means you have a great amount of flexibility going into your next picks - Jordan and Lanier's assists mean that you don't need a true point guard. Great defense and rebounding so far. Good amount of FT as well. You should be able to turn this into a great team.

jakotay: Wilt, Dirk Nowitzki, Manu Ginobili

Man, I love all these teams so far. Dirk and Ginobili are great guys to pair with the Stilt, plenty of good, efficient usage. If Ginobili played 600 more minutes he'd be a surefire 1st round pick. You probably still need a good deal of rebounds from the SF slot (assuming Manu plays the 1 or 2) , and of course Manu means you'll need a good bench player on the wing too, but again you have tons of flexibility going forward since you've already managed to get plenty of scoring, rebounds, assists from these picks. Great start.

sappy: Lebron, Dikembe Mutombo, Robert Parish

Another good start. Great rebounding, great scoring at high efficiency. The only thing I don't like quite as much is that, thanks to the defense changes, neither Mutombo or Parish has as great a season as they used to have (especially Parish, who saw some significant defensive declines). But I think that won't be too big a deal, and you've left yourself needing a relatively plentiful skillset - wing players with mid-level usage, average rebounding, and high efficiency. Good start.

banditone: Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Clyde Drexler

Hardest to read, for me, cause I don't know which Drexler you'll go with (or which Jones, for that matter). Will Jones play the 3 or the 4? Hopefully the 3, he's more useful there. Some Drexlers would be bad choices for you. I know which one I would pick, and with that one you're probably fine. This team is pretty efficient, and should be good rebounding too, but it feels not quite as good as the first few squads to me.

I wasn't sold on Wallace, as I think the only time I've ever used him is in platoon leagues.  But then I saw the flexibility it gives me with my 4th and 5th picks, and it was a no-brainer.  Now I can take the best available PG/SG/SF with pick 4 and PF with pick 5 (or vice versa).  Plus, like you mentioned, I don't need a pure PG necessarily because I've got great ASTs from MJ & Lanier.  But trust me, if there's a way to screw this team up, I'll find it.

I'm so hosed. People I was hoping to see are dropping like flies.

6) ncih - Dwight Howard, Swen Nater, Steve Nash

Your offense is great. Your rebounding is great. I just don't think a team at this cap can be more than a 45-win team in an average division starting two guys with defense of 40 or less. You have a chance to pull it off, because your offense and rebounding are really shaping up to be elite, but it will take a ton to get you to the 50-win (contender) level with your defensive start. Someone will prove me wrong about low-defense guys someday soon, but until it happens I'll keep saying this (NOTE: Ash won 51 games last season starting Nater and a guy with sub-50 defense and bringing another sub-50 guy off the bench. So it can be done. I just think it's hard. But defense aside, this is a very god start).

   7) 98average - Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Gary Payton, Mookie Blaylock,

Not a fan of Payton in 52-mil (see: Bryant, Kobe). Mookie is great at 47 mil, and still pretty good at this cap. Never really used Kareem, but he's obviously an offensive beast. I worry about the rebounding a little - you'll need a ton from the 3 and 4. But overall a very good start.

   8) tricky24  - Chris Paul, Tracy McGrady, Buck Williams,

Love Paul and Buck, not too high on McGrady (see: Payton, Gary) but he does a lot more than score, too. Given you have two efficiency monsters, would like to see a little more efficiency from your top scorer. Still need some rebounding, we'll see where you go.

   9) bluenote - Larry Bird, Mel Daniels, Anfernee Hardaway,

Like it a lot. Bird and Penny started for my title team last year, Daniels is a very solid big to pair with them. Got plenty of assists, scoring, defense, and rebounding already - very balanced team. Good start.

 10) xxevilivexx  - Charles Barkley, Kevin McHale, Horace Grant,

Holy offensive efficiency, batman - this team will certainly convert at a high rate. Not always easy to build the backcourt starting in round 4, but the frontcourt at least will be beastly. Good have trouble putting together a backcourt with enough defense, threes, and assists to make this work perfectly, though (guess what - I'm in the same boat right now!).

I was scared he (Bullwinkle) wouldn't fall to me... but he did, and he really opened up what I'm going to do.  First off... 44%+ creb% is helpful.  62 defense is not that bad.  Holy ast%... might allow me to use a higher efg% Billups!  And I've used the guy in several leagues and know what to expect... he's really a stat sheet stuffer... with exception of points... and isn't the foul monster that many of the other guys with similar creb% are.

I really had a hard time deciding between Boerwinkle and Walton, but ultimately Walton's (much) better def won out.

11) mikee1 - Magic Johnson, Carlos Boozer, Marques Johnson,

Johnson is a great start, but it makes a team somewhat tough to read because he can go in multiple directions. Same with Marques Johnson. Not a fan of Boozer's low D, and not sure it'll be very easy to get a high-D big man at this point. Overall, this team will probably be a very good rebounding squad, but hard to tell much beyond that.

 12) scudmissle - David Robinson, Jerry Lucas, Larry Nance,

Well, you hit the frontcourt hard early. Robinson has become much more popular in the last few seasons, and for good reason - offensive beast. Lucas and Nance fit well, make up for the Admiral's merely OK rebounding. You still need a lot of assists and probably a gunner at the 2 - how much will you have to sacrifice to get those two things moving forward?

  13) malone - Bill Russell, Deron Williams, Brent Barry

Not a fan of Russell quite this early, but he could work. Mad that you took Williams when I wanted him, haha - he's good but maybe a bit early. Same with Barry. You have a ton of assists so far - maybe even more than you need. And you still need plenty of usage and rebounding from your next picks. Not sure I like where this is going, but plenty of picks left.

  14) dh555 - Dwayne Wade, Donyell Marshall, Shawn Kemp

This is a great defensive team so far, with good balance and good rebounding. Wade is on the edge of being a little lower efficiency than preferred for a lead scorer in a 52 mil, but should be fine. Love the flexibility Marshall brings, and Kemp can be a monster if the fouls don't keep him down. Interested to see how you fill this team out.

  15) katernberg  - Hakeem Olajuwon, Paul Pierce, Willis Reed,

Looks OK, feels wrong. Olajuwon and Reed never seem to end up on successful teams, although they look solid on paper. You have good D here, and vance was successful with Pierce last year. Just...it feels wrong. Hard to explain it.
9/2/2011 10:43 PM (edited)
What Wade are you looking at?  The one I think is almost a no-brainer is no where close to low usage.
9/2/2011 10:36 PM
typo. fixed.
9/2/2011 10:43 PM
ah.  Then I'm in agreement (but the overall package is nuts good)
9/2/2011 10:44 PM
ps you mentioned undrafted players in your previous evals.
9/2/2011 10:44 PM
haha - should be fixed. clearly i should never be allowed to do this again.
