For the record I did attempt to recruit Suzuki the player of subject during the first cycle but he rejected my visits. So I proceeded to try and pull him down in cycle 2, Washington put in such an effort that he was the lone wolf on Suzuki such that I was left wondering whether the number of scouting trips which 30 was not enough perhaps or it wasn't enough because Washington put in a lot more recruiting effort. I went on to pluck away with 5 trips here and 10 trips there all the way to signings....So far it seems like once a high prestige is on a player then only other high prestige teams can recruit said player. So I will and encourage others to as well to put a crap load of scouting trips into any 4 or 5 star players during cycle one. Consider it an insurance premium so that you aren't left on the outside looking in on a team 1000 miles away with mediocre effort on a stud in your backyard that you could have yourself. If other B type prestige teams follow this fatchance approach high prestige teams will have less of w monopoly on all the 4 and 5 star recruits. Which should return some balance back to D 1.
So you were getting killed by considering credit as well?

Additionally did this player want to play far from home? That could have hurt you as well.
1. Yes, Washington had the advantage of considering credit. Although I never knew considering credit was so valuable, it never seems to save me when the big boys come knocking on my recruits' doors. 2.the player did want to play far from home but the close to/far from home thing never seemed all that powerful to me. Perhaps those two issues plus the prestige disadvantage made the situation more difficult to overcome than I anticipated. In the future I will put scouting trips into 4 and 5 star recruits from the get go if I intend on possibly making a play for them. Lesson learned, I won't slow play pulldowns. On a side note the 5 star I recruited successfully this recruiting period, I did put 30 scouting trips into from the first cycle. So that may be enough or he was just more willing to consider my program (he didn't have a home preference).

I tend to regard this question from a realistic standpoint. My DI schools have been UMBC and currently North Texas. With north schools I would continually go after the big boys, especially at my B prestige UMBC program. Five star recruits that I jumped on from the outset would give me back-up option messages. I would then just touch base with them in the hopes that they would slide under the radar. Most of the time Maryland or Georgetown would find them and I was toast. This, real-worlded, makes absolute sense. If my son is a decent basketball player that I thinl can go to a "good" DI school, I will listen to UMBC until the big dogs come calling. If they do, sayonara UMBC. This to me is one of the more realistic parts of the game. As far as scouting trips go, 15 is the most % ever have cash for. 135 is mind boggling to me.

As someone who coaches a mid major that makes the NT basically every season I understand you're perspective. However B or so prestige schools in big 6 conferences are significantly different in recruiting cash. Your umbc team may have the prestige but for the most part you don't have cash nor the distance advantage to compete and win one of those recruits almost ever. My Colorado team has the money and often times the huge distance advantage so the point of this thread is to learn how to go about pulling down these 4 & 5 star recruits from situations such as mine, these type of recruits are worth large amounts of scouting trips if that is the last obstacle to hurdle landing them.
