Daveymac, that is hysterical! I hadn't put one and one together on that. We are going to need a bigger clubhouse or separate interview areas!

N4ser-You have Drysdale and Killerbrew and I have Gibson and Cash.  If Gibson was gone I would have taken Drysdale and if Killebrew was available I would have taken the Killer.  In other words if we had each others Draft Picks, we would have ended up with each others Players.  Now with Round 3 coming, I get to Pick before you and maybe get the guy you want.

Just picked Ken Boyer 3B-If I had passed up Boyer, I would have been left with a problem, with no solution on the horizon.

After;
Santo
Mathews
Robinson
Boyer
theres a big drop of at 3B.  But this was a good pick for the organization in that Boyer was the next highest rated Ball Player who filled a position that for the rest of decade is going to be hard to fill.  I also like the fact that I'll now have a strong Right Handed Bat hitting behind and protecting Norm Cash.

Ralph Terry was just taken.  I liked Ralph too, and probably would have taken him, if Boyer was unavailable.  And there's nothing wrong with taking a Yankee Player, because in 1961, they did win it all!

I Just took Elston Howard. He should be able to fill the catcher role for a few years. I was hoping to get Boyer for the same reason Outbacker did which is why I took Elston. The C position falls off from there.

Yes Howard would have suited me well.  His .348 Averg. in 61 would have suited my Line Up in that Howard would have Batted 5th and offered protection for Cash.  It was also a good Pick because now you won't have to scramble for the second Rate Catchers, like the rest of us will have to do.

I agree outbacker - I was going to take Boyer with my next pick because of the big drop in quality 3b's with the hope to get Hoyt on the way back.

walter-For myself selecting Boyer, was the Pick.  Yes I would have liked some more longevity, and I'll never understand why after his 1964 MVP Year, it was all down hill but in comparison to the other 3B in the League from 1962-1966, Boyer was argumentavly the best.  In any event I did have an Open Mind, and had Hoyt and Elston Howard on were my radar.

3 rounds complete, hopefully the draft keeps rolling through the weekend.  That comment about the dropoff at Catcher is why I targeted Joe Torre for my first pick.  I think the biggest surprise for me through three rounds is how far Jim Maloney slipped (late third round, 42nd player taken).  He was my second or third choice when I drafted Al Kaline at #20 early in the second round.  He came so close to dropping into my 3rd round pick, just missed him by one.

Joe Torre will be starting in 1961 at 20 Years Old.  I don't think much more needs to be said.  He could have very easily been a Top 5 Pick.  It certainly entered my mind to take him at 5, but I guess I was a victim of past custom and practice.  Would past real life GM's and Managers have not made the decision to make Joe Torre their #1 Pick?  After all, Casey Stengel Manager of the Expansion Mets in 1962, made Catcher Hobie Landrith the Mets #1 Pick.  Casey said the 1st think you need, when starting a new Team, is somebody to Catch the ball.

Well, purely out of sympathy for a victim of past custom and practice, I'll offer to trade Joe Torre to you outbacker for Bob Gibson.

I was surprised by Maloney lasting so long as well dannyjoe - I've been surprised at the # of offensive players vs. pitchers.   So far only 19 pitchers taken compared to 29 hitters.  I think we're about to hit a run on pitchers in the next 2 or 3 rounds.

I was surprised that Short was still available, as well as a couple others still there.

I drafted pappas a little earlier than I would have liked, but pitching has becoming a bit scarce and with his longevity and decent WHIP, I felt I had no choice. Tommy Davis would have been seriously considered with my 3rd pick even if I hadnt misunderstood the email and made it on time. so I don't feel too bad I was that late.
Also, I am going to be away for the weekend with little or no internet so I will send BHELD my cell phone in the event I have at least cell service. My wife is insisting I spend some quality time with the family since my job takes me away 16 hours a day 5-6 days a week, I am sorry if this slows down the process

sounds like what blows is your job :)  God bless ya man I couldn't do that any more.
Did anyone notice Willie Davis, Tommy Davis and Frank Howard went in succesion? Kind of odd cause they were the OF for the 1963 Dodgers.

And 2 of those 3, Willie Davis and Frank Howard are both going to bheid's Team to join another Dodger Muary Wills.  Also Billy Williams Has been added to the Team.  A sweet Lineup for 1963 when the Dodgers won it all.  But another thing that strikes me, is that the Team's 1st 4 Picks have not included a Pitcher.
