I agree about advertising but not sure exactly what one would do.  If you type "Fox fantasy sports" into a search engine and open the link, there is a drop down menu beneath all the "in-season" games for "Simulation Games".   I wouldn't open that.   But, if I were an ad exec, the only thing I'd do differently is list Gridiron Dynasty with the other in-season games.   Getting traffic to WifS is a start.   And, of course, during baseball season I'd list SLB and HBD with the other fantasy baseball games.
Seems like MLBTradeRumors.com would be an ideal place to advertise this product, especially if they tailored their ads to intrigue the fairly knowledgeable audience. I feel like I ought to see this site advertised on all the fan-oriented team sites, as well. (Of course, I run Ad Blocker at home, so maybe I'm just missing some of those impressions.)

I'm sure we all have individual sites we think would be great but, at the very least, I think WifS should be anywhere FOX advertises it's other games.  Even if it just a link within the link.

WHAT IF SPORTS...needs to advertise more and get more players...or perhaps cut back on worlds.....perhaps its the economy, but ive never seen recruitment this bad

I think the usually thoughtful and correct MikeT23 is wrong on this one.  He minimizes perhaps the most serious HBD problem.  Like most of us I pay my money to play HBD,  not to wait weeks to play HBD while the world is filling.  We're here for action,  not to demonstrate how virtuous we are in our patience.  A year or so ago WIS stated they were aware of a problem with worlds lingering,  taking too long to fill and that they,  WIS,  intended to consolidate some of the more sluggish worlds.  That never happened.   Some of these worlds that languish  should be closed down,  their commissioners refused permission to ever commission a world again,  and credits issued to the remaining players who are forced to move to another,  more active world.  As things are right now HBD world supply exceeds the demand for said worlds.  WIS,  like many businesses caught in a classic supply demand crunch, is in denial regarding this problem.  Normally reliable,  influential and credible HBDers like MikeT23 minimizing this problem does not help HBD in addressing it.

Yet some worlds fill very quickly and have low turnover each season.

Problem with the "shut down the sorry worlds" idea, is, unfortunately many of these worlds are so imbalanced, (so many discerning owners pass on joining) and the core group of owners (the ones who have amassed super teams, or have spent 3-4 seasons tanking so they too can have a super team) will be disgruntled and will likely not just shrug it off and join a "real" world.

There's never any guarantee that anyone who has their team forcible removed will just join a "good" world.    I wouldn't.   I'd feel as if WifS stuck it to me and I damn sure wouldn't continue to feed their machine in another world.

I don't have a problem with shutting down worlds.  I've suggested it on several occassions and with specific worlds.   But it doesn't fix anything other than preventing a n00b from joining a "bad" world, having a  bad experience and never playing again.   There is merit in that but it's not the "solution" people are seeking.

if your gonna put out the money...to tank 4 or 5 years in a row to build a super team...your crazy...125 dollars to build up a team that your not even sure is gonna make it...your pick might not pan out...might get injured...other owners can combat it with international  signings ./...free agents...plus tanking can be handled if the world has a win requirement over 2 year period...the creepest thing i saw in one world was an owner with 2 teams...you gotta be a real loser to build up your ego by cheating...as for entering a world with a core of 6 super teams, i dont look at it...id rather buy a crap team and work on it, so no matter how balanced a world is i have no problem shugging it off

A)  Tanking works
B)  You can probably find evidence of it in 90% of the worlds
C)  What you or I would do isn't really the issue

Why are some owners bothered about other peoples worlds. Just like in Europe right now the economy will out over time. The srong will survive the weak fall to the wayside, let it happen naturally. Worlds fill every day others don't. I'm in btp it's a good world let down by a poor commish. We now have a new guy and it's filling steadily. But here's the key if it was the only world I was in I may be ****** but it's not so I'm happy to wait it out. The core of hbd customers run more than one team so if it's inactive for a while do they care. Like me probably not. If your waiting and you can afford it buy another team. Plus you'll actually do something positive to help the situation.

That's the other thing.   You sitting in your unfilled world for 90 days doesn't affect me.   Wait if you want, leave if you don't want to wait.  Learn from the experience.   I just hope new owners recognize that the world sat idle for so long and ask "Why?"

Direct quote from ABU wc:

12 of the 24 owners in this league have a year or less experience in this game, me being one.
Reading the posts on this board, it's not exactly a conducive atmosphere to sticking around and learning this game. A lot of *****ing, not a lot of constructive advice. Don't complain when this league takes awhile to fill up next season...

Well, his math is bad and he's complaining about the world chat.   I don't take that very seriously.   If your feelings get hurt because someone says "Jeez.  That's a stupid trade", the internet might not be for you.    But, to his credit, the commish did ask everyone to tone it down a bit and another owner immediately offered to help anyone who needed it.   A third mentioned that bad trades are much worse for a world than an abrasive world chat.

I was helping one owner in there, or trying to.
He was adamant about trading Tanyon Gaston

I cautioned him, and explained how Gaston was an All Star caliber player and relatively young.

He kept sending me the proposals he was getting, and they were awful.

He finally stopped site mailing me as I guess he "knew" that trading him was for the best regardless of my warnings, and settled on Brian UeharaGregory Matthews, and Kris Walsh.

I feel like when a new owner joins a world like that, the probability of him sticking around as a long-term HBDer is diminished substantially.

Or am I being too harsh?

I'm skeptical when new owners insist on big deals.   That one wasn't horrible but I wouldn't have made it.

The odds of him sticking around in that world are almost non-existent.    But he might use it as a learning experience and move to another world.

Public World Ryan rolled on Nov. 2nd  with 8 openings.  It increased to 9, and is now at 7 openings.  I say give the remaining 23 owners $100 in HBD only credits and fold up shop on World Ryan.  (inner monologue: I'd settle for less than $100 but figured I'd start the bidding high, maybe even prorate it based on tenure of years invested in said world).  I think we have exceeded Critical Mass in HBD.
