Haven't had much time to read the forums lately and when I do I come across this-- Don't see how this is benefitial for anyone but definetely some well-respected, nicer players responding. I still think this comes back to WIS (and the community as a whole) not doing a good enough job educating new players on the fact that the logic of WIS doesn't equal the logic in rl. Remember NBA JAM? I could dunk it from the three point line and if I got hot, hit three's from all over. It wasn't really like basketball but it was still fun. I think of this as the same, but think the logic needs to be explained better up front by WIS. The forums, and especially a few of the veteran's threads are very helpful, but would be nice for WIS to do a better job in explaining the way the engine works.
I know there is a major learning curve, but I don't think relying solely on mentors is the way to go. This guy obviously made a few mistakes that if he would have been aware of, wouldn't have reached this level of frustration. The bottom line, this is a game that favors the experienced and that as well should be stated heavily up front so that new participants know what they're getting into before they sign up for a team.
Lastly, I know its not a workable idea, but I would love to see a DIV III world be set aside for newbies. I'll never understand why a veteran of 30 seasons enjoys beating up on guys that don't know what they're doing, especially given that they most likely have a huge Prestige advantage in addition to the knowledge gap. I dominate pick up basketball games with only middle-schoolers, but I don't really consider that much of an accomplishment. I would like to see the veterans accept that mindset more readily and embarass "experts" out of Division III, making it more of a temporary learning spot rather than a fixture. If we had that, we could have "simmy" advise on moves or provide information much like he does on the jobs process (Coach, you could run UpTempo to take advantage of your depth). Again, know that is not a popular idea and is not going to happen, but I would much rather play against all human opponents who know what they are doing than win championships playing mostly sims and the uneducated.
