I’ve noticed vast improvements in FG% and 3PT% at a B+ or better. Same goes with Press, at the B+ range players will contribute more steals and have way less fouls. I find it hard to believe that anyone has been successful playing Flex/Press with anything less than B+ Team average. IQ is so important.
Won the NT in Tark last season with 3 seniors. One was A. I think the other two were A-. The rest of the roster was between B and D.
No disrespect at all here (again, I suck and have no titles), but isn't it generally easier to win a title in D3 with the talent alone? As in, is it possible that your roster was a lot better than others, and maybe you escaped the poaching more than others, allowing IQ to be somewhat of a non factor?
I ask this because even with me playing at D2, I usually target Early and EoP1 signers. In seasons that D1 coaches bypass my main targets, i bring in phenomenal classes and make deep tourney runs. In seasons where my main targets are poached on the very last cycle of RS1, I end up with lesser talent and i don't go as far.
(And to add some reading material for shoe to love, poaching is completely random! I said it! I had one season where I signed three 1star players, simply because no D1 humans decided to pursue. I've had seasons where i'm not even excited with my potential signings, and here comes D1 humans to take them all away. Random, because a coach decided to attack a Slippery Rock led player. And not a West Chester (PA) led player for example. If both schools have a 650 OVR guy lined up that are fairly equal, and one gets poached and the other doesn't, that changes the direction for both schools. "Random poaching"..... the greatest ever two word term for shoe and I to discuss. Haha. Let it rip buddy!)
That might be the case, but since we’re talking about D3, it’s appropriate.
Put it this way, you say your players play better with better IQs, but aren’t their ratings also going up as they become upper class men? How sure are you that it’s the IQs making the difference and not just improved skill?
I’ve noticed that my freshmen heavy teams play like **** for part of non-conference play, but once those player get to D+/C-, things really pick up and they start winning more games.
I understand this argument, about "how sure are you that it's the IQs making the difference and not just improved skill?"
But I've had cases where I redshirt a player, and he's basically maxed to begin his junior season (which is equivalent to a senior season had he not redshirted). And i'm excited that he's gonna be a beast for two full seasons.
Then that junior season (maybe A or A- IQ), he underperformed in my eyes, and the following season he dominates (A+ IQ the whole season). And he might only gain 5 points total the whole senior season.
I'm not discrediting your method. It worked extremely well for you. I'm just sharing my experiences as well. I will also say, i'm referring more to a Triangle/M2M team and you're referring to a Flex/Press team. So there is difference there. BUT... I've always felt like Press needs IQ MORE than other sets.
