I didn't see this thread until now.
I put 80 AP on Jones as soon as I found him again, which immediately unlocked the scholarship. Then I offered a Start and 20 Minutes because I didn't have any money left. My only hope was to get him for free before you could catch back up. Unfortunately for me, Late in this instance meant late late.
I don't know why the Considering List turned out the way it did, but that was what I did. Congrats on the win. I was sad to lose him in the first place.
You lost a guy with over 93% of the promised minutes, starting 25 of 26 games. That’s the big story here. You are, unfortunately, a cautionary tale.
There is no 80% rule.
While I agree that the 80% rule should be treated as forum gossip and not a rule, the 80% rule was technically violated with Jones. Or at least how I interpret the "rule." Jones ended up starting 23 of 26 games in the regular season (88.5%) and 25 of 30 total games (83.3%), but he did not start in games 7, 8, or 9. So after 9 games he had only started in 6 (66.7%). My understanding of the "rule" has been that a player must always be above 80% at every point during the regular season. Jones would have been below 80% from games 8 through 14.
I am definitely surprised that Jones transferred and agree that he is a cautionary tale, but I just wanted to clarify.
He doesn't have to be over 80% at all points in the regular season. I've had many instances where I've taken a guy out of the starting line-up and replaced him with someone else for an important non-conference game, even if it was the second or third game. I know it's a technicality but that would put him under 80% right off the bat.
Or........suppose someone forgets to set their depth chart (it happens, trust me) and doesn't put the player in the starting line-up for the first couple of games. Under 80% then as well. I've actually (and I wouldn't recommend it) forgotten to put a player back in the line-up at all after the first 2 8 non-con games. Got the complaint e-mail at the end of non-con play, realized what I hadn't done, put him back in the starting line-up the rest of the way and all was well. It sounds like Pallas REALLY got an unfortunate break as far as the promise threshold goes. I also think that the better the player, the more likely he is to leave but that's just personal opinion.
