I would not call it nonsense. That’s condescending.
i do not know how many witnesses started their witness accounts after the shooting started.
people are not legal standard savvy and yes they want reform after the fact.
they have a right to be irate about the shabby handling of the warrent and the policy of a no knock warrent in non exigency circumstances which this was.
at least Louisville stepped up and did civil justice with a proper settlement and is now engaged in meaningful
reform and calling it the breanna Taylor act.
now is a time for the Louisville police dept to let people blow off steam and not push peaceful protesters.
I agree with all of this. None of it suggests legal culpability for the officers involved.
This is an excellent example of 2 wrongs not making a right. Nothing we do to the officers involved will bring back Breonna or help her family. If we make examples of the officers for doing their duty they just become further victims of a broken system. The real exigency was for systematic changes, at least some of which have been enacted. And hopefully the size of the civil payout, which was clearly due from a city with an unquestionably broken policy resulting in a civilian death, will result in more cities enacting Breonna Taylor Acts before someone innocent dies.
I find it super hard to believe, looking at the facts of the case, that no legal ramifications should come from this case. Seems like it was mishandled all around by the PD and the boyfriend was justified in shooting (of course, I wouldn't do it, and I think it's still pretty dumb, but probably still legal). It all depends on whether the officers announced themselves, right? I find it hard to believe that the boyfriend would have started shooting had they done so, but I digress.
I'm not a legal expert, so I could very well be wrong on all of this. It just seems that this case is so bad that some legal repercussions should come of it.
