Hitting: 2005: New York Yankees / Boston Red Sox
I like the offense I ended up with. I'll have to play some guys out of position but I think it will be good enough. The question I have is whether the depth on my pitching will make up for the bad defense I'll have. Was worth it? I don't know. When I made my first pick I sort of wished I was picking 2d since I had two pitching staffs I had rated about equal and I was having trouble deciding between them. That said, I doubt that getting my hitting one slot early would have made much difference.
Having gone through a couple of these drafts, I think I would have preferred to be in the upper middle of the first round. But the actual sweet spot for draft slot probably varies depending on the teams involved in each draft and the preferences of the other drafters. So my guess is that sometime the No. 1 pick will be worth it and sometimes not.
