Kammeyer’s self-evaluation
I always enjoy reading evals, never written one before so I'll make this simple.
Dwight Howard Hit (happy to get him with the 12th pick as I have him ranked as a top 6)
Artis Gilmore Neutral (great CReb’s but high on Tov’s)
Paul Pierce Miss (could have gotten him in the 5th round and reached for him in the 3rd round)
Chauncey Billups Hit (Maybe someone like Ben Simmons would have been a better pick, but a solid PG)
Ray Allen Neutral (solid 3-point shooter but will have to play some 96% effective minutes at PG)
Paul Millsap Hit (surprised I could get a quality SF in the 6th round)
Deandre Ayton Hit (good backup PF/C)
Amir Johnson Neutral (Steelers821 gave me a copy of the ADP by this stage of the draft, and I took him based off that. Might only use him on one team due to his low Ast%)
Kyle Korver Miss (I fell in love with his Efg, but he has little else to offer)
Rasheed Wallace Hit (only using him on one team but you can’t ask for much more this late in the draft)
Joe Ingles Neutral (shoots well, passes well, plays multiple positions, very high Tov% and terrible D)
Jameer Nelson Miss (Disastrous pick when you consider Kevin Johnson went undrafted. Zero value added across all five teams. Will probably be set to rest)
I did this draft on a cell phone and tracked all my players in my head. I won’t make that mistake again. Next time it’s all spreadsheets and buying the WIS six pack in advance and building my teams as I go. Because I tracked players in my head, I made the mistake of assuming some position effectiveness as well as ran low on team Ast% when Billups is on the bench. For example, that’s why I can only use Rasheed on one team. I would love to use him on more teams, but I don’t like falling below 50 Ast% at any one time during a game. Additionally, my overall team D is subpar.
The lesson I learned: Besides the aforementioned, I’m big on not holding up the draft. I like to make my picks as quickly as possible. In the next draft, I’ll take an extra 15 min and do better research when I get sniped. I got sniped at least five times in this draft, but that is something everyone must deal with.
Overall, I might have two teams make the playoffs. I have no title contenders, but I also think I won’t be relegated to the wait list. I grade my first Savage draft as a D+.
