Game 97: Montreal turns a pitchers' duel into a slugfest with a six-run fifth inning, getting consecutive home runs from middle infielders Randy Verlade and Bret Boone. St. Louis scores two runs in each of the 6th, 7th and 8th, but the Spectres respond with a single tally in the bottom half of each, taking a 9-8 lead on the last of those runs. Robb Nen pitches a scoreless ninth and the Spectres win the opener.

Game 98: Brady Anderson hits two home runs, giving him 32 for the season, and Alex Fernandez pitches seven strong innings as the Spectres defeat the Blue Storm 5-2.

Game 99: Montreal completes an unlikely sweep of St. Louis behind Chuck Finley, who throws seven two-hit innings to earn a 6-1 victory. Scott Sanders finishes off with two no-hit frames, and the Spectres hit three homers, including Carlos Delgado's 10th. Delgado becomes the sixth Spectre to reach double digits.

Montreal has a winning record (50-49) for the first time in a long time and heads to Houston to face the Lone Stars.

Game 100: Ken Caminiti not only leaves eight runners stranded, he commits an error that leads to two unearned runs. Randy Velarde, at the other end of the lineup, strands another seven runners, and the Lone Stars take the opener 6-2.

Game 101: Tony Phillips leads off the game with a home run, then hits a two-run single in the next frame. Ken Caminiti partially atones for the previous day's misadventures with a third inning homer, and the Spectres hold on for a 4-1 win behind Dave Burba (6-8).

Game 102: Brady Anderson homers and drives home four runs; the Spectres survive a rough outing from Eddie Guardado to win the finale, 7-5. Alex Fernandez improves his record to 14-7.

Game 103: Chuck Finley has major problems in the fifth inning and Cincy scores five times. The Spectres strike out eight times in five innings against Pedro Astacio and 12 times overall, never generating a sustained rally, and drop the opener 6-4.

Game 104: Montreal does nothing for seven innings, then rallies off a tiring Sterling Hitchcock to tie the game with three runs in the eighth. Eddie Guardado pitches a scoreless top of the ninth and the Spectres win it in the bottom half on Jay Buhner's bases-loaded single. Scott Erickson has a good effort, allowing only two earned runs in seven innings.

Game 105: Ken Caminiti blasts a three-run homer in the first inning to get things started; Dave Burba later adds his third of the season and pitches seven 3-hit innings to wrap up a 6-2 win.

The Spectres head to the West Coast to face the LA Looters.

Game 106: Things look bleak for Montreal until the ninth, when LA's tired bullpen does them in. Trailing 3-1, the first two Spectre batters draw walks off Doug Brocail. Jeff Juden replaces Brocail with one out, and allows doubles to two of the next three hitters. After an intentional walk, the next four batters single, and the Spectres take a 7-3 lead. Omar Daal pitches a scoreless ninth to seal the victory. Jay Buhner reaches the 100-RBI mark in the game.

Game 107: This one is no contest; Montreal scores in the first on Brady Anderson's 34th home run, but fails to cross the plate again. Meanwhile Chuck Finley blows up in the fourth; LA scores six times in that frame and rolls to a 10-1 victory.

Game 108: Scott Erickson pitches six 2-hit innings, allowing only a solo home run, and the Spectres put three over the fences as they take the finale at Dodger Stadium, 6-2. Robb Nen earns his 28th save.

Montreal comes home to face Orange County.

Game 109: The Choppers looks more like Bashers in this one; Marvin Benard hits two of OC's four home runs and the Spectres are overwhelmed by Kevin Brown in a 12-6 blowout; Ken Caminiti's ninth-inning grand slam makes the score look better but does not bring Montreal any closer to victory.

Game 110: Ken Caminiti stays hot, hitting a grand slam for the second straight day and adding a solo home run as well, as the Spectres bounce back for a 7-2 win to even the series. Alex Fernandez pitches seven strong innings and improves his record to 15-7. Tony Phillips commits a team-leading 28th error.

Game 111: Chuck Finley is apparently determined to replace Scott Erickson as the worst starting pitcher in the league; he takes another horrendous beating and the Choppers crush Montreal 16-5 to take the series. Benito Santiago hits his third homer of the series. Jay Buhner hits #30 for the Spectres.

Montreal heads west to face San Francisco.

Game 112: Scott Erickson not only pitches well (one run in six innings), but he stars the scoring off with a two-run double in the second inning. Scott Sanders is dreadful in the late innings but Robb Nen snuffs out a 69er rally and the Spectres win the opener at 3Com 7-5.

Game 113: Montreal does a nice job hitting 16-1 Shane Reynolds, but the Niners score eight times in the fourth, five of them after Randy Velarde boots a ground ball that should have been the third out, and goes on to win a slugfest, 15-10. Reynolds is touched for six runs in six innings but gets the win to improve to 17-1.

Game 114: Alex Fernadez' recent good run comes to a crashing halt; he allows 12 hits and nine runs in four innings of work. Frisco takes the series after dropping the opener, scoring an 11-7 win over Fernandez.

The Spectres head back to Canada to host the Bootleggers (50-64).

Game 115: Both teams reach double digits in the hit column, but Montreal breaks things open with a four-run eighth inning off Bryce Florie, getting a two-run double from Brady Anderson and a two-run homer from Ken Caminiti (his 30th). Robb Nen bails Rick Aguilera out of the ninth and earns his 30th save.

Game 116: Three errors for Tony Phillips, 11 unearned runs score off Scott Erickson, and a blowout win for the Bootleggers (19-8). Yikes.

Game 117: Dave Burba combines with two relievers on a three-hitter; Montreal hits no home runs but comes away with a 5-2 win.

Still six games out of the wild card spot, Montreal begins the third round of divisional play with a trip to Philadelphia.

Game 119: Philly gets even, putting eight runs on the board in the first two innings off Chuck Finley and holding on through a furious late-inning Spectre rally for a 12-10 win. Ken Griffey Jr. strands five runners, Carlos Delgado four.

Game 120: Carlos Delgado bounces back from the previous day's performance to hit two of Montreal's four home runs in a 10-4 victory. Scott Erickson pitches six innings without allowing an earned run and drops his ERA below 6.00 for the first time in a long time. Erickson is 8-13.
