We win round 1, but I'm nervous about how poorly we're shooting 3-pointers. Marshall and Holcombe need to step up their games.

Coach, it's so easy to look past the first round game, glad to see you had the guys focused on taking care of business. Good luck in the 2nd round!

Up next, Pepperdine, who we beat at their place by 18, during our non-conference schedule. Does that mean that we'll win again? Not necessarily, but it does make me feel somewhat more confident.

Of the ACC teams in the postseason, all but Virginia Tech won.

CollegiateInsider.com's Post-season Awards

bucky Simms

(Cincinnati, OH) - As another season of college basketball draws to a close, it's time to honor those players that have really stood out from the crowd this season...

Our first award goes to Paul Haubrich as our Division I National Player of the Year. The 5th Year Senior Shooting Guard averaged 15.9 ppg this season to go along with 3.2 assists per game. Haubrich led Florida to 27 wins this season through his on and off court leadership - which should be a big plus next season (if he returns).

Our next award goes to Terry McClure as our Division I Defensive Player of the Year. The 6'11, 221 lbs. Senior had nearly 1.1 blocks per game (not to mention the altered shots) to go along with 4.2 defensive boards per game for the University of Maryland.

Our selection for Freshman of the Year goes to Walter Rawlings out of the Villanova University. It was apparent early on that Rawlings was going to be special. The Power Forward averaged nearly 7 points per game against very tough competition. Should be fun to watch over the next 4 years although it's tough to imagine the NBA won't come knocking.

This seasons Collegiate Sports Writers Association selection for National Coach of the Year goes to colorblind79who led Maryland to a record of 29-2. This is the 1st National COY Award for colorblind79.

We have absolutely no answer to this guy. Marshall matches up better than Blakey, but we'll be beaten hard on rebounding and interior scoring, and he should neutralize Marshall as a scorer. Really amazing. I can't believe he didn't go pro last year. I really, really wish he had, as he's the biggest block between us and a championship.

The one and only area of comfort is that he plays in a Triangle offense and Zone defense, meaning that his speed and athleticism are less of a factor than they would be otherwise. Regardless, this here is the best SF I have ever seen.

Nowhere near as scary as Gary Adams, who we managed to shut down last game. Hopefully we can pull off the same stunt, as this fellow is the leading scorer for his team by a fair margin (roughly 1/3 of his shots are 3-pointers).

We are butting heads with another quality press defense. They have good rebounding guards.

I think we have better depth, in general, and in the frontcourt in particular, but I would not run an uptempo offense against a press defense.

In a situation like this, coming up against a good team, I have to remind myself that we've had a lot of success this year. Oldresorter told me once, "Dance with the one that brung you." I like to say, with a top team, "Be the threat, not the solution."
