I am anti-BDS. I don't think we should sanction Israel. I think we should let them be. BDS is certainly not good for Israel.

Many liberals are against Saudi Arabia. It's Trump's rich friends that want to keep ties with them.

And for the record, if I were to pick an ally in the middle east, it would be Israel.

I watched the Maher clip. Now it's your turn. Take 10 minutes out of your day to go to page 631 of the "Best President ever" thread and read up. I can copy/paste it here to make it easier on you if you want.
Picking an ally in the Middle East...too bad that can't be an ally for strategic reasons rather than the least evil regime. Strategically, Turkey, Egypt then Iraq would win the prize.
INTERESTING.

Only Israel is reliable and strategic and strong.
I was referring to location, doug. Turkey, controlling the entrance to the Black Sea, is the clear winner. Peter the Great recognized that over 300 years ago. Egypt, controlling the Suez, is a close 2nd.

It was the paperback version of PETER THE GREAT but I wore that book out. Pre computer. Fascinating.

Poltava and Narva and Charles and the great Northern War. The last of Nordic dominance wiped away.

But those things are ancient history. The physical entrance or exit into the Mediterranean from that local are suspect.

As a bomb takes out the Brooklyn Bridge, so goes a canal. Technology is unthinking.

It is our constant tension of localized and crippling attacks against our people countered by a total and planetary significant destruction of whole regions of the world that keep sane and reasonable regimes in check. It's the unreasonable ones you gotta worry about.

And regardless of their state of mind or weather they believe you or not, you must be ready to crush them. At worst case you are no longer a factor in world politics, if it still exists, but at least you took one for team civilization.

I directly refer to Iran and North Korea.

But it's not ancient history because both the question and the answer remains the same. No matter what technological advances are made, human nature has changed little and the planet not at all. Our need to control key natural resources, to dominate topographical features that dictate migratory and trade patterns, by land and by sea, are now as they were when Pericles dreamed of Athenian hegemony, when Rome actually achieved it or when Peter founded his warm-water port at the mouth of the Neva and tried (but failed) to reach the Turkish Straits.

Turkey is in NATO for that solitary reason...and whether you call the city Byzantium or Constantinople or Istanbul, the waterway the Hellespont or the Dardanelles, the land mass Anatolia or Asia Minor, it is still, in the end, one of the most strategically significant locales in the world. Do you really think a bomb versus a Hoplon changes the equation? It changes absolutely nothing. A thousand years from now, people will still be wrangling over those 62 miles of water.

WOW! Very well stated. Someone who actually knows and GETS what History does for us. It teaches us IF we allow it. All we must do is open our minds. As Wilco tells us (well, Jeff Tweedy actually) "... be the one to open up your mind"

I disagree. We have pipelines and air and fast rail. Turkey is in NATO in name only.

The next Great War places two bombs and both waterways are shutdown.

We'll all be thrown back to the Stone Age.

AND that my friend...is ancient history.

Looks Like Ilhan Omar’s Marriage Is on the Rocks

Sep 4, 2019

RUSH: It looks like, ladies and gentlemen, Representative Ilhan Omar’s marriage is on the rocks. Her husband wants a divorce after learning about the “bombshell” of her affair. She and her husband “allegedly separated in March. Omar asked him to divorce her around that time because she didn’t want to file the papers,” but this guy refused “telling her if she wanted a divorce, she should do it herself.”

Ilhan Omar is Somali. I don’t know. Something tells me she’s lucky she’s doing this in the United States. But, at any rate, again, there’s something really, really screwy about this that they’re gonna try to cover up as well.
