Coach, thank you for your interest in joining our program. Unfortunately, we are looking for a coach who has demonstrated the ability to infuse a consistent winning atmosphere.

I saw the glass ceiling and figured I'd give it a shot, although I knew it was a long shot. Still, "consistent winning atmosphere"?!? I think I've got a pretty consistent record, here. Okay, okay, it's just something they say. It's not actually catered to the applicant...regardless, that's dumb.

----------

By the way, thanks for dropping by and saying something, girt. Pleasure to have the new national champion looking in on my cute little midmajor.

That be me.
And yeah, it's just something they say ... but how hard would it be to have the responses that you get actually make sense? Or the recruit who's been considering you for two days saying, "I don't know much about your program ..."
These would be very easy things to fix up. I've even offered to write up new messages for them.

You know, I don't want to jinx the year or anything, but the team looks phenomenal to me. Joe Shue still has room to grow, but he's become a hell of a player all the same. We've got great depth at both guard spots and the small forward position. We have Larry Criner to back up both frontcourt positions and hopefully we'll be bringing in another recruit to handle the deep bench as a big man. I'm hoping to get another guy to redshirt.
I really like this team. I'm trying to figure out if a big guy or a guard would be the best person for a redshirt. Probably a guard...big men seem to be able to play okay even without knowing an offense, whereas guards are more directly responsible for running the system, and it seems to take longer for them to develop an outside game. I guess that answers that question.

#46 SG, #247 Overall, ***; redshirting. I took him on largely because I wanted a guard who could shoot first and we can ask questions about ballhandling and passing later. He's not going to be good on the stripe. Lots of room to grow, in general. I won't be giving him any time for his low post skill, so his total rating might not raise as quickly as would reflect his actual progress. I may or may not spend practice minutes on his FT shooting, depending on if he shows up as a D or higher. I expect his speed to reach the 90s and his athleticism to get to the mid 70s by the time he graduates. His rebounding is very good for a guard.

#47 PF, #242 Overall, ***; promised 10 minutes. Melvin Zodrow played the Triangle/Zone in high school, so should be ready that much sooner to contribute to the Rams. I really like him. My only complaint is that his FT shooting is slightly low for my taste. That will improve somewhat (it should start at a C and make it up to a B or B+), as will everything else. I think Zodrow will be rock solid for the next four years, and has a chance to make the NBA.

Originally, I had Harrington locked up for about $4k, but my conference-mate zamiam decided he fit Penn's system too well and was too close to campus (within 2 miles) to ignore, so I got a battle for the guy. I also battled a Sim for Zodrow, and then just had to wait for him to show up, which finally happened this cycle. I am very happy with both signings. I did shoot an annoyed sitemail to zamiam about him coming in after a day on a recruit in conference. First couple cycles, that's fair game, I think. Outside of conference, also fair game. It's just bad manners to deliberately do something to **** off a coach you'll be playing at least once a year. He wound up with a nice recruiting class in spite of losing Harrington. After he showed up on the kid's considering list, I already had Zodrow lined up so I went ahead and put everything I had into Harrington. It worked. He went to look for less-green-but-more-available pastures.

Budget Remaining: $79
Scholarships Open: 0

The grade I give myself for the way I filled these two scholarships? I'd say they were perfect Fordham-type players. Still, maybe I could've brought in four or five star type guys, you know, hypothetically. It would've been much riskier to try that than to get these two mostly-safe bets. So let's say an A-minus. Possible room for improvement, but I'm very happy with what I got.

In the game of poker that is HD recruiting, I knew colorblind would redshirt Harrington. I though I could steal him away for about $12k and the promise of minutes. But after getting bumped off the consideration list, despite the promised minutes and spending $7,310 in visits and scouting trips, I got out and looked at Willie Hanson. Started suspected Hanson was taking booster gifts from one of the two schools he was considering. Cut my losses at after spending $5,780 and found Texas SG Rex Myers for a song and he was willing to accept a redshirt. In the end, I needed the money to win the recruiting battles for Joel Pyburn and Joshua Hewes.

This game between the 13th ranked Rams and the 14th ranked Wildcats was ludicrously tight from start to finish. If we'd been hitting more of our FTs, maybe we could've iced it on a few occasions, but we wind up pulling the thing out with some OT heroics. Zodrow even hit a three pointer - something that will never happen again, because once I saw it, I put him down to a -2 from the perimeter.

Good game. If this had been in AZ the outcome would have been different. I'll see you in the second round of the NT this year.

I think we'll both be higher seeded than that. Maybe the Sweet Sixteen...
Oh, and good game. Very tight. If it had been at your place you probably would've won by 4 or so. Maybe as much as 10. We'll see how my team holds up. I can say I think they handled adversity pretty well, this afternoon.

Here we eventually take down the 2nd-ranked Fighting Illini. I'd like to see better FT shooting from my team but in general I couldn't be more pleased.
