I'd like to see a revamp of the batting order in light of how crappy the OBP has been at the 1-hole (.322) and 2-hole (.333) all season long.

The following is my suggestion to improve top-of-the-order OBP while ensuring that the hotter bats get more plate appearances. Also keep in mind, I'm continuing TLR's fascination with batting the pitcher 8th while putting Brendan Ryan at #9 in the order. This is also assuming facing a righty starting pitcher (which is a majority of the time). Rasmus shouldn't be at leadoff if facing the rare y.

1. Colby Rasmus

2. David Freese

3. Albert Pujols

4. Matt Holliday

5. Yadier Molina

6. Ryan Ludwick

7. Skip Schumaker

8. PITCHER

9. Brendan Ryan

---

Molina has proven to be a strong hitter when runners are on-base even though he's not much of a power threat. That's why he's a notch above the homer-hitting Ludwick.

That's a lot of pressure on the youngsters at the top. It's early, though. No harm in giving something like that a look. Dynamics change when Lopez returns.

In their first 34 games, the Cardinals have had only five in which their starting pitcher failed to last at least six innings and gave up more than three earned runs. Four of those have been turned in by Kyle Lohse, who is 3-13 since last April.

Time to hit our stride and choke out any thoughts the Reds may have of sticking around.

Reds won again today. Looking strong. We need to win tonight with Carp on the mound.

I cannot bring myself to watch a full game right now. The offense is so bad it feels like we have no chance at putting a rally together. Ever since the last few weeks last season and now into this season our offense is brutal. I think not having any production from leadoff is starting to take a toll on the middle of our order.

That doesn't explain our inability to hit with RISP though. Thank god for our pitching and a weak division.
