Which fighter is the least likely to lose within there typical weight division:

1. Fedor
2. GSP
3. Anderson Silva
4. BJ Penn

Why?

erff was gay in prison.

Fedor. He really isn't going to face anyone on the downside of his career. Silva is probably the least likely to lose in the UFC. He just looks unbeatable. Relentless from all angles. I'd hate to fight a guy who never steps back, re-evaluates and catches his breath. Once he hurts you, you can only hope to hang on until the end of the round because he's going to be all over you.

Why are there no wrestlers in UFC's 185 pound division, while every other division is loaded to the gills with them?

How much of Andersons Silver's dominance attributable to the lack of quality well rounded fighters with a wrestling pedigree in that weight division?

1/8/2010 1:24 PM
I never really thought about it. 185 lb fighters tend to be 210 lb athletes. 210 lb athletes tend to play sports that don't call getting kicked in the head an "occupational hazard". I read an interesting article the other day about this gym owner who "recruits" failed football players as boxers. Maybe MMA just hasn't really caught on with guys who have other sports options.

It seems to me that the best game plan to fight him would be to take him down and keep him there so he couldn't swarm you. A top quality wrestler could possibly do that. But he doesn't appear to be a guy that is going to co-operate with that plan.

Will Mayweather-Pacquiao happen?
1/8/2010 1:55 PM
I was wondering if there were no boxing fans. Yes, it will happen. Mayweather wants to get in Pacquiao's head. And he probably has. Pacquiao might be doing something, he might not. But he's added about 40 lbs to his frame. That's a lot for a 150 lb guy. By objecting to the drug testing, he casts a bad light on himself. And the sport. So Mayweather's positioning may have been a kick in the sack to boxing. My guess is both will fight in March as scheduled. Probably against tomato cans. If Pacquiao is using, he'll have time to clean up before they fight in the summer.

Will the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight live up to the hype? I see Mayweather on his bicycle for 12 rounds, resulting in me throwing my television out the window in a fit of rage for having paid for the fight. Your thoughts?
1/8/2010 2:16 PM
Probably not. Mayweather knows what he has to do to win. And that's throw 2-3 punch combos and get the hell out of the way. He's not going to go toe to toe. I would suggest not buying the fight thus saving your TV.

Is it sad that a guy has to come out of "retirement" for there to be a fight worth hyping anymore?
1/8/2010 2:40 PM
Boxing has attempted suicide many times. The biggest difference I've seen between MMA and boxing is that when there's a fight people want, MMA gives it to them. Boxing tends to wait 2-3 years. Of course, most of the MMA fighters are under contract with the UFC and aren't going to make the money going elsewhere. Boxing is more freelance. Individual fighters/promoters make the fights. Ego and greed gets in the way.

Would you agree that other than a few singular fights, that boxing has diminished greatly since Tyson was put away?

It always seems that the health of the heavyweight division drives popular interest, does it not?
1/8/2010 3:12 PM
Tyson was far more exciting to watch that Lennox Lewis. Lewis was a very good fighter and well-spoken. Unfortunately, his time at the top was a borefest. People want to see broken faces not the sweet science. Now all the top heavyweight's names end in "lenko" or "ski". That will not excite the American public.

People want to see people do things they cannot do. Most men believe that the 135 lb champion could not beat them in a fight. So watching two 135 pounders battle it out isn't their cup of tea.

How bad will Herschel Walker be in his MMA debut? Bonaduce bad?
1/8/2010 4:16 PM
No. He's an athlete and in pretty good shape. They'll throw some slug in there against him, the same as they did with Lesnar/Kimbo, so he should win. But, sooner or later, he'll have to fight a legit MMA guy. I don't expect that to be pretty.

Given that we just had the power/defense update and their is another update on the way...

What do you advise people who are currently getting their teams ready for next season?
