Artest was tough in his prime!

Was hoping Lanier or Sikma would have made it to me they would have been great fit I think.

There are several options for what we could do. If we want to keep debate going we could do a tournament in the forums that would probably last a month or so playing 1 game a day and taking votes with reasoning. Or we could use the bracketmaker thing I posted to have people fill out brackets and then we could award points based on people's predicitons and crown an overall winner that way. That would be much quicker which is both good and bad.

What do others think?

My thought about a tournament was just a simple, single-elimination bracket.  Maybe one round every two days.  On the off day, competing GMs would have an opportunity to post a game plan and make their case for why their team can win.  On game day, everyone would vote on each game.  I'd encourage everyone to post rationales along with votes, to keep the debate going.  The team with the most votes advances to the next round.  Just a thought.  It shouldn't have to take anywhere near a month.
i think that would be great ltb

That could be interesting.  Even if your team gets eliminated, you'd still be part of the process.  If that's the way we go, I would think Draft order should determine the Bracket: 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6 and so on, with the winner of the 1/2 game playing the winner of the 3/4 game and so on.

A bit more on my Artest pick..

I really wanted a defensive minded SF for a few reasons

1. The lineup of Thomas/Bryant/Artest/Walton/Mutumbo is about as good as its going to get defensively. 3 great perimeter defenders and two great shotblockers behind them? Perfect. I can start this lineup against some teams and use Hawkins at the 3 against teams where I think he can dominate.

2. Hawkins gives me great flexibility as he can play the 3-4-5 at least.. thus if I put Ron-ron at the 3 I can move Hawkins to the 4 if/when Walton can't go.

As for why I picked Artest.. In my mind, there was a few year period where he was just about as big an impact player as there was in the NBA. His blend of quickness, physicality, and bat **** crazyness made him one of the best defenders against 2s,3s,and even 4s that I have seen. He has been among the league leaders in steals for the last 10 years, if he can get steals and Kobe/Isaih and Connie can get out on the break.. good times.

Offensively, I mostly want Artest to stay out of the way but he has had times in his career where he could knock down 3s. We will need him to do that now and again to win a game here or there.

Also, he won a title with Kobe.. so there is some chemistry there.

1 all-star appearance
1 title
1 defensive player of the year
4 all-defensive teams

13th career in Stl Percentage in the NBA (15th combined)

Note: I do NOT Want Meta World Peace on my team.. I think Ron Ron has lost not only a step but alot of desire since he won his ring.

I like your idea, brad.  Consider this a vote for it.

Mostly good with brads idea though I don't want to have a forum full of coach speak. Just setting lineups, matches, offensive tempo and defensive style.. Much like the sim.. Is Enough for me

Really sorry to hold things up.  I had no idea I'd be out so long or would have sent proxies.  I'm in a hurry as it is, so I'll sling a pick out there and ask if someone could please sitemail ahead for me.

Mark Price.

Sorry again.

Well.

It's really hard to differentiate the real player from the sim god who played no defense.  He wasn't the greatest defender IRL (actually, I'm not sure that he could spell defense), but there's a difference in someone who is a defensive liability because of something physical and someone who just didn't get after it.  But I need someone to come off the bench and space the floor... and this guy was an incredible shooter, but he was more than that.  His overall offensive game was incredible.  With all of the positional flexibility my team has, I feel confident that I can put Glen Rice on the opponent's worst offensive player and be solid for 20-28 minutes a game, while having my offensive efficiency go through the roof.

Oh, and the guy is an NBA Champion.

Considering he'll be playing alongside either Wade or Marion I think you can get away with him on the floor!    Unstoppable.

I like just about every pick in this round so far.
8/20/2011 10:40 PM
I wanted Webber! Mark Price was a great player! Lanier was a great pick-steal. Robertson was alot like Moncrief, Moncrief was a little better shooter but almost identical games.

I know Dantley was a great post scorer but that was his whole game. He would have a difficult time playin in the post against the best of all time and had little shooting range, no ball handlin or passing skills, and was extremely weak defensively. Not sure you needed a post up SF to go with Barkley & Gilmore even with a great shooter like Allen.

I believe Dumars without the hand check would've been an avg defender. He lacked size and quickness to defend great scorers without the hand check rule. I was a huge Pistons and Dumars fan and he definately belongs in this draft but I thought I would throw it out there cuz it's the reason I would've only taken him as a backup for my team.
