It's not "my" POV. No one called on Obama to resign because the standard for resignation is much higher than "knowing someone who may or may not be racist."

People are calling on Northam to resign because dressing up in a klan robe, taking pictures, and highlighting those pictures on your yearbook page meets the standard.

But my point is don’t reach into your coat and disrespect I mean in terms of whether or not you get a ticket at a traffic stop since most of us interact with cops because of that at least in my experience. If you’re polite you’re more likely to get a warning. The elephant in the room is the Travon Martin cases and those like it. My point is the cops were justified. Most of the time they do the right thing.

Trayvon Martin wasn’t shot by a cop. He was murdered by a dude with a gun chasing him.

And you keep intertwining reaching into your coat and disrespect. It doesn't matter how respectful you are when a cop has a gun pointed at you, if you reach into your coat, you're probably going to get shot.

Not defending him. I know next to nothing about him, but people mature at different rates. A 25 year old is not necessarily more mature than a 21 year old, just like a 30 year old is not necessarily more mature than a25 year old. Dino, can you honestly tell me that you never did anything stupid/dumb when you were 25? I know I sure did.

Do you hold a public position with immense power?

I agree with most of this, but even in my limited experience with the police, they are not always respectful, even if you are. I once got stopped (back when I drove a limo) at like 3 in the morning. I was heading back to the garage after a long day. The officer kept implying I was drinking. I politely explained I was just really tired and only wanted to go home. He was pretty nasty and kept saying he knew the owner of the company, and he should tell the owner I was driving drunk (even though I was not, and there was no alcohol in the vehicle). He finally let me go, but he was an ******* and I was poliet and respectful the whole time. To make matters worse he did tell my boss that I was very disrespectful and nasty to him. The only thing I was was tired.

Did you report him? I would have. Perhaps I am lucky but I have yet to have a tough experience with a police officer. Knock on wood. All have been positive and very polite. Usually helpful. One time I had a blow out and the state trooper waited with me on the side of the highway until AAA arrived. He told me that under no circumstances should I be changing my own tire on the Mass Pike. A really nice person.

No. It would be my word against his, so what is the purpose of reporting him? It would be more trouble than it would be worth. I'd make an enemy of a police officer and nothing would likely come of it anyway. Most of my experiences with police officers has been fine. I am respectful to them and they are respectful to me. (Although there was the guy in Rhode Island who stopped me for speeding on my birthday. He saw it was my birthday so he said he'd just put me down for going 70 in a 65 zone instead of 80! Gee thanks!

Verbal assault is assault. Battery is hitting them. If you are guilty of battery then you’re putting your life in your hands. Assault is a disrespectful threat.

Assault is the threat of actual harm, not an insult. Insults are protected speech.

I provided a specific quote of what I meant. No goal post movement. Feel free to read the posts and see for yourself. My bigger point is that we should treat law officers with respect and expect the same from them. 99% are good people who want to help us.

i usedto be totally with you until a few years ago...i know longer think that 99 % are good people.
i think it is only 80 %........it is just my opinion but it is how i feel now.
i see a lot of laziness in investigating crimes...inability to take constructive criticism or comments.

just out of curiosity, on what do you base that 80% figure? Mostly the news just reports when cops do bad stuff. You rarely see reports saying "black man stopped by cops for speeding, let go with a warning" That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
