I played in a league recently like this but with a different twist. We drafted a 25 man roster and had to play five seasons with that same roster, but using a different season each time for each player. It was a lot of fun.

I was in that league, and I still have my roster:

Ruth, Babe

Walker, Larry

Keeler, Willie

Camilli, Dolph

Knoblauch, Chuck

Jones, Chipper

Larkin, Barry

Howard, Elston

Kelley, Joe

Shameless plug...

If anyone is anxious to try out one of their theme ideas, War of the Themes II is currently accepting new owners.

Has anyone played a progressive twist league? You play year to year, just like a progressive, but can twist the players into any year you like.

Thanks, but not exactly - I was thinking of something where we all had the same base season

that sounds cool, too....I'd join something like that

Yeah, if you couldn't use the same season twice...

I've been thinking of this one for a while, and I'm looking for some feedback. It is based on the sim league I was in in my job years ago, using the old FullCount Baseball program.

I call it The 2009 Progressive.

There would be a draft of the 2009 players starting in late February-early March. This would be your team. You would then track your players all season long. You could also make trades throughout the season.

At the end of the regular season, there would be a three round supplemental draft, where you could drop players and pick up replacements. This would allow for players who were called up or otherwise had unexpectedly good seasons to be picked up. Of course, players would have to meet WIS minimums (25 IP or 50 AB).

When the 2009 players stats appear in the database, the teams would be filled and the sim season played. Each owner would then have so many keepers (say, 8 batters and 9 pitchers), and next February/March, there would be another draft, and the whole process would begin again.

This would be different, in that it would literally be a single season at a time, and research would be a lot different. Plus, owners would have to be alert to possibly being traded players who had suffered season ending injuries.

The Boo Your Own Bonds league actually got off the ground. Check out the League Standings thread here:

i've been trying to work out the idea of a clone pyramid league.

basically, the players you pick are in tiers and you have to have all your clones in that range. something like this:

tier 1: 1 player, 30mil silver king
tier 2: 2 players, 17mil and 14mil ruth
tier 3: 3 players, 11, 10, 9 mil maddux
tier 4: 4 players, 7,7,8,8 mil pete rose
tier 5: 5 players, 2, 3, 4 5, 6 mariano rivera

essentially all the players at the lower tiers can't be higher than the previous tier. the salaries can be flexible, or fixed. if they were fixed, it would be like

tier 1: 1 player, 15+
tier 2: 2 players, 10-15
tier 3: 3 players, 7-10
tier 4: 4 players, 5-7
tier 5: 5 players, 3-5
tier 6: 6 players, 0-3

i'm not sure how many different players would actually qualify, but it would be fun to try.

I like this idea. You could possibly modify it so that the player must be retired, so Maddux would be eligible for 2008 but Bonds and Clemens 2007 would not.

I realize that there's some correlation there too, but your team's success should be worth a little more. We could even add defense (fielding% and/or +/- differential) if we wanted to.
We just finished our first season and it was a great idea. We had some problems in that everybody had the same players (8 big units, 7 Madduxs, 7 Arods).

Swartze re did the idea and made each player exculsive through a serpatine draft. For those of you that came from Roto Baseball like I did, this is as close as it gets. Lots of stratagy involved.

I believe I will have first choice of where to draft. I'm leaning towards going first and taking the 73 homer Barry Bonds or the 40/40 AROD.

Shameless plug - we got 4 spots . It is alot of fun - not your typical OL same ol same ol.

I think this idea is going to take off in SIM

I agree. VERY fun league, and the draft is going to add even more strategy to it.

Get in now, before too late.

I'd like to see an extreme pitching league. Playoff spots decided by the teams over .500 that allow the fewest runs.
