I go into more detail with the teams that have selected 3. I like what I'm seeing thus far: No lost causes and many teams that can potentially be dominant.
hacker7: Wilt Chamberlain, Buck Williams, ML Carr,
Wilt and Buck I'm down with. Carr made me scratch my head, though.
a) I don't like the synergy with Wilt and Buck (though his rebounding from the 3 - or the 2 if you go that route - will be nice).
b) I'm fairly confident he could be had in round 5 if not 6. I don't think I've seen him drafted in odl before (granted I've only played in 2 others and kept track of a 3rd) in this era.
banditone: Shaquille O'Neal, Connie Hawkins, Kevin McHale,
This is the best team I've seen banditone put together at this point. It still lacks in several important areas, however, and those areas will be hard to fix considering he's already drafted his frontcourt. I love Shaq and McHale, and I love them together... but I think you needed a board-lord more than Hawkins.
gtak: Moses Malone, Grant Hill, Brandon Roy,
I like how this team works together. Hill and Roy give you lots of assists so that you don't have to necessarily draft an elite passing point guard. Moses and Hill give you a lot of boards. Roy gives you some threes and is very efficient with the basketball. All-in-all, a great start to a team that could be fearsome with the right two other pieces.
dh555: Michael Jordan, Gary Payton, Robert Parish,
Love Jordan. Don't care for the pairing with Payton. I think you'll end up spending too much on your backcourt to take care of your frontcourt and will still lack in the area of threes. Unless you use a particular Jordan and particular Payton season... and then you're going to be spending bank. HOWEVER, I love the idea of taking it hard to the opposition with the guards. The Glove and his royal Airness will punish the plethora of sub-50 defenders you're going to face. Parish is always a nice front court guy in this league.
longtallbrad: Magic Johnson, Marcus Camby, Reggie Miller,
I love this start. Magic and Reggie will get to the line - a lot - and make a high percentage. You've got threes with Reggie (and some with Magic, depending on season) and have a lot of boards between Camby and Magic. Needs the right guys in the next two rounds, but definitely a nice start.
lhtgk: Chris Paul, Kevin Willis, David Lee,
This is a team I don't like. And when I say that, I mean that I don't want to play it. Neither Willis nor Lee are guys I like building my team around, but both rebound the ball extremely well. You've got the best PG in the sim to distribute and score a ton for you, and give you some threes, so I like where you are headed.
empdenied: Kareem A. Jabbar, Dana Barros, Donyell Marshall,
This is interesting. It greatly depends on the Jabbar season you use as to how well I like it, but kareem + Barros is definitely a nice inside-outside combo, and Marshall is a rare three-man who is efficient, shoots extremely well, gives you a ton of threes, rebounds well, and blocks a few shots and steals a few balls. I'm really interested to see who you go with at power forward (or small forward if you decide to play marshall there) and shooting guard.
ncih: Dennis Rodman, Mel Daniels, Penny Hardaway,
It's all about the wings, baby. I like your 1, your 5 (or 4!) and your 4 (or 3!). I fear this team already. I fear it with great abundance.
uvasooner: Shawn Marion, Wes Unseld, Terry Porter,
efficiency. That's the common thread in most uva teams that I've seen. This is no different. He's got boards, threes and few turnovers all wrapped up in these three guys. His next two picks will be easy and will give him everything else he wants. I hope to hell I don't end up in the same division as him. Again.
ashamael: Charles Barkley, Artis Gilmore, Kevin Johnson,
I had these three guys targeted from the get-go. Barkley is my favorite player IRL and in the sim. He's a paint monster and gives you a ton of offensive boards while getting to the line a ton. He'll shoot 60%+ for me from the field while doing it. So will Gilmore, who'll give me a ton of boards and block some shots. KJ will get to the line a lot, make everyone else around him better, give me a three every game, get some steals and did I mention get to the line a lot? I'll be drafting some wings next to give me what I'm missing. I doubt I'll pull off another 62-win season, but I'm confident in the squad at this point.
omegax: LeBron James, Jason Kidd, Bill Laimbeer,
I don't like the Kidd/James combo. I feel you could have/should have gone with a more offensive minded point, but I see the logic behind this. I think you went Laimbeer way too early, as there are guys available who'll do the same thing with less negatives, but I don't know your entire scheme so I'll just stfu about it and see what happens in the next two rounds.
tricky24: David Robinson, Troy Murphy, Kevin Durant,
I LOVE this team. You need more offensive boards, but man, this is an incredible start. Admiral is a great paint scorer, Murphy is the perfect three-man in this league, and Durant brings the kitchen sink.
jakotay: Dwight Howard, Manu Ginobili, Dirk Nowitzki,
This looks like a team I'd build. I have no idea where you're going at the 1 or the 3, but they'll be huge in deciding whether this team wins 30, 40 or 50 games. I love love love Dirk + Howard, though.
eleibowitz: Bill Russell, Kobe Bryant, Jerry West,
I don't like this team and I'm gonna tell you why: Your backcourt is going to run wild on mine. West isn't as good in the sim as he was IRL, and while he can be devastating, it's hard to build around him. This is a good start. Kind of high in turnovers and low in efg%, though, so you need to shore that up.
scudmissle: Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, Tom Boerwinkle,
This team is disgusting. You don't even need a point guard. You can seriously grab someone with 5% ast% at point guard and still have a bonus to fg% out there. You've got a ton of defensive boards, too. And you've got a low tov%. As usual, scud, I'm in awe of your team building prowess.
coachcroft: Larry Bird, Sven Nater, Chris Mullin,
Racist.
tarheel1991: Chauncey Billups, Paul Pierce, Bill Walton,
I love this. I know what you're doing, and I approve. I don't know if it'll work out in the long run, but I really, really like where you're going.
98average: Peja Stojakovic, Ray Allen,
This cookie will crumble without the most important parts, which are not these two guys. You can stick any two wings that have high efg% (shoot threes) with Moses, Rodman and Nash and win... mainly because Moses and Rodman give you all the rebounds you need and Nash gives you all the assists you need. You won't be able to make up for all of this AND get the offensive efficiency that you would have gotten with those guys.
captainzen: Dwayne Wade, Ben Wallace,
I like this pairing. Not going to give as much detail from here on out as only two guys have been selected.
garyman: Jerry Lucas, Karl Malone,
scary front court. Gotta see where you go next.
cenquist: Tim Duncan, John Stockton,
Stockton to Malone was the greatest pick 'n roll in history, but Duncan gives you more offensive boards - as well as most things other than points/fta.
shapandrew7: Hakeem Olajuwon, Steve Nash,
Nash makes the Dream's selection look very nice. I need to see what you do with your frontcourt.
sappy: Oscar Robertson, Dikembe Mutombo,
This is a ridiculous pairing. Oscar needs scoring help.
bsmuke: Bob McAdoo, Deron Williams,
I like this pairing. A lot. You still need a lot to compete, but this is a good start, especially considering how late you started drafting.
I'm greatly looking forward to the rest of the draft!
