LBJ will never win an NBA championship Topic

Oh, sure. The ESPN special increased the size of the target on his back. But it was there regardless.

Lebron called $haq Diesel on the phone getting him to sign with Cleveland. Delonte West was part of the Seattle deal a few season back before seattle went to okc.
lebron called a lot of people, shaq was who he ended up with.

that's not hand picking, thats settling for one old guy who wants another paycheck.

and obviously delonte west was on the team before he booked mrs. lebron....but after the fact thats a huge con for the staying in cleveland argument.
you have no idea what your saying... Lebron pretty much decided who he wanted on his team and he wanted Shaq.

i said that homie. he wanted shaq more than ben wallace and any free agent that would sign in cleveland.

that isn't saying much.

I have always been a Cavs fan and ever since he was drafted, Lebron was by far my favorite player. I argued with friends about who was the best of Kobe, Wade and Lebron. I feel like this is not the Lebron that I knew and loved. He is taking the easy way out. He said that he aspires to be like MJ, but Jordan didn't leave Chicago when the going got tough. He made his team better and went on to win multiple championships. Lebron will never make a legacy like he wants to because he quit.
I fail to understand why everyone has always tried to compare LeBron to Jordan. LeBron has never been Jordan, nor never will be. LeBron is much closer to Magic Johnson then Michael Jordan. LeBron will thrive in Miami where he can do what he does best, make everyone around him better. LeBron is best when he is bringing the ball up and running the offense through him and creating shots for himself and others. This is what LeBron is, we all need to stop trying to make him something he isn't.

Z, I think they're making a comparison between him and Jordan less as specifically the type of players they are/were, and more as far as attitude, competitiveness, killer instict etc.

Jordan was second-to-none in those attributes, and I think it's fair to say that LeBron doesn't measure up to him in that area.

That said, how can we really speculate what Magic/MJ/Bird, etc. would've done in this situation. They were never offered this type of situation, and I'm not so sure it speaks so negatively about Bron that he opted for the outlet that gave him a better opportunity to win titles.

Here's an interesting point that my dad (who lives in MI but is not a MSU fan) brought up to me earlier today:

Gilbert is so irate, branding LeBron a traitor, crucifying him on the team's site. He even did this: Fathead.com, an online retailer owned by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert dropped the price of its LeBron Fathead wall decals from $99.99 to $17.41, which happens to be the same year Revolutionary War traitor Benedict Arnold was born.

Isn't this the same Gilbert who recently focused all of his energy on trying to lure Tom Izzo away from Michigan State? The same Izzo that has been entrenched at MSU for 15 years? The same Izzo that turned that program into a national powerhouse? The same Izzo who had refused previous NBA and college overtures? The same Izzo who (unlike LeBron) was still under contract with his current team?

So, let me get this straight ...

Izzo leaving MSU while still under contract would've been OK.
But LeBron leaving Cleveland when he's a free agent amounts to treason.

Gotcha.

Dan Gilbert knows that the only way he's going to recoup even a tiny fraction of the revenue he'll lose with LeBron gone, is to whip up the hard core Cavs fans into a holy frenzy and squeeze every last nickel from them.

It's essentially Dick Armey's Tea Party playbook, really, just in a different arena - compensate for a dwindling demographic with manic enthusiasm from the base.

WHy is it that Lebron James brings up politics, really?

Pat Riley had a plan. He was very quite during the whole sham that was Dwade going to Chicago twice. Signed Miller and now possibly Fischer to "help" out. He is a freaking genius! If Spoelstra can't cut the mustard, Riley will be coaching by quickly, ask Van Gundy!  Listen, the only thing that happened here is that the media frenzy made everyone crazy. It's a business and you know there is no loyalty any longer in any sport and its all about winning and cash! Can you fault 2 superstars and oh sorry a very good Bosh wanting to play on the same team in South Beach? NOPE!!!! Go Heat!!!!

besides when did jordan win his first title? how old was he? you forget that labron has been in the nba since he was 18 so he really is the age of someone in their 2nd or 3rd year in the nba.

Really -- you think a vitriolic entry on the Cavs' website in July is going to translate into more revenue next season? That's crazy talk.

He's a guy who saw the value of his franchise go down $150mm over night, was incredibly angry, and took it out publicly in an embarrasing, incredibly childish (and mostly off base) way. This is not going to put more money into the Cavs' pockets, nor was it designed to.

Gilbert already had the drinking fountains removed from the Q which led the Cavalier faithful to pay $4 at concession stands if they wanted water.   I think he was already working on squeezing those nickels although the Cav's claimed it was to slow the spread of viruses.  Hopefully there aren't any viruses on that extra cash.

No, I think a concerted effort to portray the Cavs as oppressed victims of Lebron's greed, and the system in general, will increase the revenue he gets out of the hard core Cleveland fans. Frankly, it's Gilbert's only play.

One vote for Dwyane Wade as the NBA Executive of the Year.

From what I've seen, Bosh was the linchpin. Wade was completely torn between Chicago and Miami until Bosh went ahead and agreed to go south.
