1 This is tough? Football is tough?? How many Auto workers have fingers cut off each year? How many other people with non millionaire jobs are more dangerous? If you dont want to play football get a job somewhere else.

2 Cant play 18 weeks? Who else gets this? America wants football.

3 Players deserve the money? The Owners paid for the teams and take all the risks. Players either make money or dont, and they usually got a free college education from football. If you can only play 3 years get another job!

Owners take all the risks, do they? Because it's not at all dangerous or risky to play football is it?

Nice to know you are consistently clueless regardless of the subject.
Nice to know you cant see reality in front of your eyes.

The owners buy the teams. They pay the players. They take on any debt needed to run the club.

A player shows up and plays for a few months.

I might not be able to see reality clearly if I suffered a concussion, which is a risk that many players run, even those that show up for a few months to play football. If you dragged your fat *** between the lines and put it on line for the entertainment of others, you might better understand the concept of "risk".

regarding (1) you are apparently unaware of the trend in worker safety. employers mandate safety to keep their isurance premiums down. it's a real ***** because simple jobs are harder (but safer, i'll grant you), and the boss is in your personal business as far as diet, exercise, and tobacco use

so if you are saying to the players toughen up buttercup, you are on the wrong side of history

as are 18 game seasons unless they can figure out how to make the concussion thing go away

The NFL owners should fold the League, start another one, then make sure none of the current greedy ba$tard$ players ever sees another nickel.  If they want to make owners' coin, then let them buy a team.  Until then, they're employees, just like us "common folk".  Maybe they should go talk to people in Detroit, or Wisconsin, or Ohio.
Nobody comes to watch us "common folk" work at our jobs - don't lump us in with athletes.  They have a talent you don't have that other people pay to see - why shouldn't they get a bigger slice of the pie?  Owners don't take on much risk, the TV contract is enough to keep them all rolling in dough.

The average life expectancy of an NFL player is just 53 to 59 years old, depending on the position they played. The average player lasts just 3.5 years in the NFL. The average life expectancy for males in this country is 77 years. That’s not to say that there are no players that live long and productive lives. Here is a list of former Vikings from the teams of the last 60’ and 70’s that are a live today:

Joe Kapp 71
Carl Eller 67
Jim Marshall 72
Bob Lurtsema 67
Doug Southerland 61
Allan Page 64

Studies show that the average starting NLF player does not retire from the sport due to the loss of that half step of speed to make a play, but due to injury. Injuries to the ankle, knee, hip, spine and shoulders are the most common. The long term disabilities and early death appear to be correlated to brain injuries, specifically concussions.

In 2003 at Virginia Tech, impact recorders were placed in the helmets of the football team. 3,300 blows to the head were incurred in 10 games and 25 practices. The average player received 50 blows to the head at 40 times the force of gravity during the season.

In a CRS Report to Congress in April 2008 on NFL player’s injuries while playing and lifetime health issues during their retirement, they described the link between head injury and future health issues. Players that had three or more concussion have twice the risk of developing cognitive impairment. They are five times more likely than people that have experienced no concussion to develop impairment.

Seriously, there's pretty much zero risk in owning an NFL team...especially when they continually get publically funded stadiums.

Playing football is no different than becoming a Doctor, a window washer, or a garbage man: you know what you're getting into when you do it.  If someone chooses to make millions of dollars for playing a game instead of doing something else, that's fine, but shut the heell up about the consequences.  It was a decision you made.

You need to apply that same thinking to being an owner of a NFL franchise. Understanding you've got to deal with unionized labour that forms the "product" you are selling is part of something called "due diligence."

So if you're injured on the job...don't you expect to be paid some kind of disability payment?  Football players get fired most of the time.  When the owners get to play by normal business standards, perhaps I might have an iota of sympathy for them.

I feel like I should cut Swamp and all3's wages substantially, because I take all the risk at McDonalds.

Yeah that's right, let's go back to the 1920s industry style. You get hurt in a freak accident at the automobile plant or working on the railroad. YOU'RE FIRED, GET THE F*** OUTTA HERE!!!

What's your problem with a regular guy trying to make a buck?  Why all the sympathy for the owners?  Who are you, a wanna be jock who couldn't cut it on the field, so now you're gonna talk tough and side with a bunch of pampered ******* owners, who wouldn't give you the time of day but would gladly take your money and say **** you?

You deserve to watch scab NFL players.

Incorrect.  Being a pro athlete is completely different than becoming any of the jobs you suggested.  Anyone can do the menial work, many have the talent to become doctors, but a select few individuals have the talent and physical attributes to become pro athletes.

A study was done in 1983 comparing the life expectancy of NZ All Blacks rugby players with the NZ general population over the span of 100 years.

No difference.

Also evidence that rubgy produces less catastrophic injuries than football in the field of play.

I'm sure if you strapped a plastic missile onto a rugby player's head, that may change.
