Micki says -- "I think all members of Congress should be required to be "Atlas Shrugged" before taking the oath of office."

I think it's clear by their me-first behavior that all members of Congress already belong to the "Atlas Shrugged" clan.

If I have two opponents left and one is in contention and one isn't, I'll try to try harder against the contending team if it fits my rest plan.  If it doesn't then I won't care.
This.

This whole game is so luck based anyways.  To say that someone resting their starters for the playoffs cost you the wildcard is not neccesarily an inference that can be made.  You probably should have put together a more competitive team that would have kept the division race tighter for longer.  Once a playoff spot is clinched, it's the team owner's right and responsibility to keep his team under PAs and IPs so that his team does not flame out in the playoffs.  Why should he have to tank his teams playoffs chances in the name of being "fair" to you?

As most of us, I have been in that end-season scenario where I was neck-and-neck with another team, and that team had the good fortune of being matched against a team already secuely in the playoffs and therefore resting many players, virtually assuring my opponent of a sweep.  My reaction?

I should have won more games earlier in the season.

There's a big difference between "tanking" and resting up your players for the playoffs.

If I clinch early (hey, it's happened once or twice), all players under 100% are on rest until the playoffs...  period.  I'm gonna start the playoffs with my best possible units on the field.

I manipulate my pitchers so that my #1 and #2 starters are at 100% for Game One.

But that's it.  No putting pitchers at leadoff.  No playing $200K players ahead of 100% "legit" players.  No playing out of position (unless rest dictates).

I agree completely. If I don't like being in that position at the end of the year, the solution is simple...win more games. It's not anyone else's responsibility to help/hurt mine or anyone else's playoff chances. You manage your team however you see fit and i will do the same with mine.

Interestly, Ayn Rand was an atheist. I am an active Mormon and I donate my time and talents for others, but I do so because i want to, not because I am compeled to do so under threat of breaking the law.

Doubletruck brings up Jesus and hedonism. Not sure what that has to do with taking care of yourself first. You can bring up all kinds of moral arguements that we should feel compeled, through laws of the land or through guilt, to share what we have with those less fortunate, but in the end it is not fair to anybody.

Not sure about the satanic bibles message, I guess I have just not got around to reading it.

"Atlas Shrugged" should be required reading for every High School senior.
I was just making a random comment. It wasn't meant as a jab toward you.  However, I would question why any Christian would recommend all youth in their formative years read a book by an atheist that espouses the same views as the Satanic church.

As for getting around to reading the Satanic bible.  I believe in knowing my enemy, whether that be spiritually or earthly.  For example, I know not to hand my son a copy of "Atlas Shrugged" because it delivers the message of Satan in a more subtle manner.

Finally, to comment on this thread, it's SIMball.  The object of the game is to win, and it's not like we get to play for free.  If that means you need to rest players and you choose to do it against a weaker opponent, so be it.  I rest my best guys when I'm facing some live-ball era pitcher with a 6.50 ERA, and I play my A team during each of the 60+ games I'm facing 08 Addie Joss.  I have not yet had to worry about resting my guys in anticipation of a playoff run.

This thread went downhill the instant religion was brought up in it... can we close it now, especially as my playoff run is over? Not winning a single game in these playoffs was "punishment enough" for "tanking".
