The Atlanta Tanks - Guinness Team Rebuild Topic

Washington is fine, but if I can dump him, Im sure I could get better value for 9.4 million. Theres always someone willing to take on a bad contract. I may just float him on the waiver wire--and if he doesnt get grabbed, I'll keep him if I cant get an offer.

Im not to worried about opening myself up for concerns, since those guys all got significant playing time, and the league had no issues with how the team was run up to this point. But, I have no intention on playing those other guys.

OF

Alfredo Viriato - He's average, at best. I could make due with him in RF if neccesary. If nothing else, he's still cheap and worthy of a backup spot.

David Brantley - .237 career hitter. Does have some pop in his bat and a good eye. He's arb eligible, and wants next to nothing. Not much value here, but I may keep him as filler. He's probably worth having as a pinch hitter for his 240k asking price.

Freddie Graves - Completely worthless. 37 glove horrible splits. He'll be demoted to rot in AAA.

Patrick Ojeda - He's average, and still at the minimum contract level. I have him plugged in at LF if I cant upgrade.
Added my OF's. to the reserved post. Id really like to upgrade here with some really good bats. Usually decent hitting LF/RF can be found somewhat cheaply in FA, but as I posted before, I can only upgrade at so manty spots, and I havent even looked at pitching yet.

I received a communication from WIS inviting me to take over another franchise in Guinness. I declined, but I am guessing I wasnt really being given an option.

you should accept the invite, then **** up the team by signing guys to giant contracts. then send in a ticket to see if wis will reduce the contracts.

Turns out i was being given a choice. However, someone in Guinness is a snitch.

i cannot believe that

Pitching. Posting the best of what I have to choose from if I were forced to go with what I ahve today.

Bob Locke 87 IP 1-12  7.60 ERA 4.0M 2 years  I'll be stuck with him for 2 seasons. I wont read much into last year's stats, but he's probably about a 5.00 era pitcher. He'll be a mopup and hopefully I'll never be forced to start him.

Willard Arnold 105 IP 4-8 5.30 ERA 6.6M 2 years. Slightly better than Locke, but Id prefer not to have to use him. But no one will take on this salary. So I will likely have to make him a #3 Starter.

Paul Romero 118 IP 6-5 4.64 ERA 5.4M 1 year. Another pitcher I'd rather not have but may have to make do with as the 4th starter. Control in the 40s and poor LH splits. I do like that he is a groundball pitcher since I plan on really focussing on defense to build cheaply.

Jay Watkins 147 IP 1-11 5.86 ERA 343K. At least he's cheap. Below average in all ratings across the board. Good enough for my #5 starter.

I have no other SP  that I feel are worth mentioning. I listed the big salaries and anyone else that I may be forced to give a spot to. I will get some misfits through waiver wire, free agency and rule 5 to upgrade as many spots as possible. Id be perfectly finte with paying Romero 6.6M to play in AAA if I can upgrade.

Donnie Cook and Bum Sutton are adequate relievers.

So, I need to face reality and realize that more than likely, all these guys are going to be on my Big League team next season. Even if I keep them, I need to find 6-7 more pitchers to fill out the staff. It would be a challenge to find 10 guys while being forced to keep the salaries of the current staff on the books.

Checking my pending free agent pitchers, and there's a couple I'd like to re-sign.

Julio Colon A good reliever who inexplicably spent all of last season in AAA. He could have helped this team last year. He was signed to a $4.7M contract and put in AAA. I cant explain that.

Hugh Wallace He made 11 starts in AAA and 18 starts in the ML. He was making over $9 Mil, will be asking for $5Mil. I have no idea why he wouldnt have been in the majors for all his starts. He was better than any other pitchers on the staff, and was respectable in the past for this team.

But, really I expected that a ticket would be sent. There were some owners that believe, or did believe that PhilBar should be the owner of this team.  And when he was given the password that confirmed to them that was WIS's intent. I don't blame the league or those that sent in tickets for doing so.

I think the tickets that booger posted showed that WIS didnt neccesarily believe that the correct action was taken by 1st level support, and the WIS decision to allow me to keep the franchise backs that up or at least backs up that my rights to the franchise - having purchased credits for that team specifically -  were stronger than PhilBar's.
