Pitching. Posting the best of what I have to choose from if I were forced to go with what I ahve today.
Bob Locke 87 IP 1-12 7.60 ERA 4.0M 2 years I'll be stuck with him for 2 seasons. I wont read much into last year's stats, but he's probably about a 5.00 era pitcher. He'll be a mopup and hopefully I'll never be forced to start him.
Willard Arnold 105 IP 4-8 5.30 ERA 6.6M 2 years. Slightly better than Locke, but Id prefer not to have to use him. But no one will take on this salary. So I will likely have to make him a #3 Starter.
Paul Romero 118 IP 6-5 4.64 ERA 5.4M 1 year. Another pitcher I'd rather not have but may have to make do with as the 4th starter. Control in the 40s and poor LH splits. I do like that he is a groundball pitcher since I plan on really focussing on defense to build cheaply.
Jay Watkins 147 IP 1-11 5.86 ERA 343K. At least he's cheap. Below average in all ratings across the board. Good enough for my #5 starter.
I have no other SP that I feel are worth mentioning. I listed the big salaries and anyone else that I may be forced to give a spot to. I will get some misfits through waiver wire, free agency and rule 5 to upgrade as many spots as possible. Id be perfectly finte with paying Romero 6.6M to play in AAA if I can upgrade.
Donnie Cook and
Bum Sutton are adequate relievers.
So, I need to face reality and realize that more than likely, all these guys are going to be on my Big League team next season. Even if I keep them, I need to find 6-7 more pitchers to fill out the staff. It would be a challenge to find 10 guys while being forced to keep the salaries of the current staff on the books.
