Rule V #69 Draft Thread (Nice!) Topic

Geographically Atlanta is furthest west though they have more tradition dominating the NL East.
Brewers came from the AL so that makes sense.
Diamondbacks and Rockies are a tossup though we shouldn't torment the AL with an unexpected Coors stadium.

I think tormenting the AL with an unexpected Coors Field sounds like good fun.

Huh. So would divisions be like...

AL East: Boston, Yankees, Blue Jays, Orioles
AL Central: Cleveland, Twins, White Sox, Brewers
AL West: Houston, Oakland, Angels....Diamondbacks?

NL East: Mets, Braves, ExpoNats, Phillies
NL Central: Reds, Cubs, Cardinals...Marlins?
NL West: Padres, Dodgers, Rockies, Giants

Two NL teams going to have to move over.
I think the AL will be just how you have it listed there. My choice for NL would be:

East: Mets, Marlins, Expos/Nats, Phillies
Central: Braves, Cubs, Cardinals, Reds
West: Padres, Dodgers, Rockies, Giants

Have we ever thought of just random realignment?! Not sure it would be fun or just crappy, lol

There's been talk over the years of aligning several different ways, including by franchise record, strict geography, random, etc. But no real consensus on anything. So, I've basically stuck with as close to real life as possible.

This leg is almost certainly too late, but I really think we should get weird one leg and try random divisions. Or re-do the franchise draft via a more recent look at franchise success. Or I dunno.... blacklist a random year.

Yeah I have quietly been in favor of giving random divisions a try for a while now.
10/16/2020 3:23 PM
picking teams based on the divisions that other teams/owners are in has always been a thing I've disliked about the format, and going random means that teams like the Rays or Rangers are less likely to go through the wood chipper, or new teams can feast on the Tigers and Pirates of the world, so I think it could help balance out the talent disparity a bit.

edit: but yes I agree this is a thing that should be settled before any drafting starts in the future.

Being relatively new, 2nd season, I like staying as close to Mlb as possible. It also doesn’t bother me that some may draft based on who owns what team.

Need four more sets of keepers.
10/16/2020 9:16 PM
What's the keeper status? Are we gonna go timed on Monday still?
10/17/2020 7:44 PM
I am home and my keepers are in. ready to go tho I would have rather stayed in the NL east. Usually its the Marlins that get moved, not sure why it was the Braves this time but it won't matter; I have last place locked up already

Oh and my vote would be for randomizing divisions. More spice to the stew.

Actually the last leg (#68) all 5 teams in the RL NL East got selected and it was the Braves that got moved into the NL Central.

I also looked all the way back to leg #45 and the Marlins always were in the NL East every time (although they haven't been used a lot lately). The Braves meantime have moved SIX times in that same time period (twice into the NL West). They were used a lot more often than the Marlins though.

If we're timed Monday and still missing keepers does that mean we get to pick the keepers for any derelict owners?
