lower the mound
This seems like a no-brainer. I don't know why in the world that hasn't been the very first move announced, at the latest for next season, ideally for right after the All-Star break this year.

And do some experiments at lower levels on how much to move the mound back as well - 6 inches maybe to start.

But that's more complicated and has other consequences, even if it needs to be done soon. But lowering the mound has been done before, has worked before. And doesn't particularly affect pitchers' mechanics or arms the way moving it back does. But it does make some rising fastball and spins look just a little more human.

Heard today that last weeks BA was in the .240s. And

MLB has sent all teams a letter stating in about 2 weeks (didn’t catch exact date) Umps will begin random checks of Pitchers for foreign substances.

Violaters will be suspended for 10 days. Apparently some hitters, including JT Realmuto, have been pushing for this.

Assuming this was the problem averages should continue to rise.

So it pains me to say this, but bagchucker was correct!

i heard they were gonna eliminate foreign substances

but i was saying Enforce the rules against regular old sweat and spit that are already on the books
6/15/2021 2:17 PM
for example, to enforce the old no spitballs rule

for a long time they said pitchers could not put their hand to their mouth

then over the years someone made the claim it was safer in cold weather to let the pitcher go to his mouth so he could control the fastball

and now you see guys go to the mouth 24/7

Tell me you've never pitched at competitive baseball levels without saying you haven't pitched at competitive baseball levels

There's not a hitter in the league that wants the above to happen.

You've always been able to go to the mouth, it just can't be the last place you go. After the mouth you have to go to your hat or pants

Let's be honest here as well. We took 2 months of baseball stats and started complaining about the low numbers. We all know the importance of proper sample sizes, and historically hitters do better during the summer months than they do at the beginning of the season. Averages have started to rise, and likely will continue to do so as hitters get into a groove. Hitting is much more feel and rythym than pitching, and the last 18 months of baseball have made it really hard as hitters to get into their rythyms at the plate.

Lowering the mound is the only thing I think could be done to improve things, but don't think we're close to the dire straights some think we are. The game is different, but different isn't bad.

different is bad

no action

at least in olympic curling there's two guys with brooms scurryin sweepin dustin polishin mightily like the game household names they hope to be

Besides the point is now MLB and many hitters are saying that foreign substances have contributed to an artificial decline in averages.

Mlb has sent a letter to clubs stating this. We will see if they really enforce the rules.

Manager: "Hey, why are you hitting .230??!!"

*Dumbass Manfred buckles down on something he doesn't understand simply because he thinks itll help public perception*

Hitter: "um that's why I'm hitting so poorly, yeah that’s it….”

For the record, I’m all for getting rid of foreign substances like sticky tack or whatever. But they’ve now banned sunscreen mixed with rosin as a substance on balls. Rosin is legal, they play during the summer in open parks and where sunscreen. You don’t think those things are gonna mix??

for the record, you're lying

you are pretty much the opposite of all for getting rid of foreign substances like sticky tack or whatever

you are pretty much all for keeping the game the way it is

Two months of stats? Offense has been way down for a long time.
