It was pointed out that Brady Anderson was a solid player for Baltimore for multiple years, not a one-hit wonder (7 seasons with salaries over $5 million). I should have used a different player in my example. '69 Rico Petrocelli qualifies as a one-hit wonder.

Things I can do to help alleviate this issue. It will still happen but hopefully, not as often.

(1) Combine the four "backup hitter" buckets into one bigger bucket.
(2) Combine the six relief pitching buckets into 2 or 3 bigger RP buckets.
(3) Possibly combine the five starting pitching buckets into 2 or 3 SP buckets.

Penalty for getting stuck in a situation where you can't draft a legal player: Must use a "replacement" <300K player from the franchise you need.

The 25th Round Expansion Bucket will have a decent number of hitters available to help if you get penalized with a 300K player.

Not to get overly complicated, but you may want to count the "replacement" player's salary at $5m or $10m or something, otherwise it may be strategic to be forced into a $300k player for draft position

This is a good idea, although the "charged" salary will depend on the bucket. I will figure all of this out and outline everything before we start drafting. For now, I just need to get all the rosters in so I can create the buckets.

I included Todd Jones as a reliever on the Tigers team because he’s the all time franchise saves leader. But I have no idea how he had seven seasons of over 30 saves with whips in the 1.4s and higher.

Yep, back in the day (before analytics), there were RPs who had terrible whips that would continually get save chances. Living near Chicago, 1989 Mitch Williams immediately comes to mind. Somehow, he saved 36 games and sported a 2.76 ERA despite a 1.51 whip. With 52 walks in 81 innings, he was the original "Wild Thing".

Just checked.... The movie "Major League" came out that same year, so maybe Mitch got the nickname from the movie... not sure which came first. I just remember thinking of Mitch Williams every time Ricky Vaughn took the mound in the movie.

In Philly every time Mitch came into a game, Schilling put a towel over his head and wouldn’t look.

Mitch is a regular baseball correspondent on Phill Sports Talk Radio and is well liked by the fans even though he blew the World Series. He is respected because he was a stand up guy, and offered no excuses.

Just a quick look at all-time saves leaders. Mitch is ranked 54th all-time and has a career whip of 1.56. Todd Jones is ranked 22nd with a career whip of 1.41. Jose Mesa is ranked 21st with a career whip of 1.47. There may be others I am missing (a bunch are in the 1.3's), but I think these three guys epitomize how little value WHIP meant back then.

For the Expos/Nats at least, outfield was the toughest place to draw a line at 3. I took Guerrero, Raines, and Harper, but had to leave off Dawson and Soto, among others. Was tempting to put a weak-glove Raines season at 2B, but that didn't feel like the right spirit here.

Similarly I considered putting George Brett at first base for the Royals but like you said, it just didn’t feel right in the end.

Also I think most teams are going to have to make some tough cuts in the outfield. I didn't have room for either Johnny Damon or Carlos Beltran. . . both who started their careers in KC and both put in 6 solid seasons there.

I will take the Anaheim / California Angels if available
