We turned the tables on Northern Stars X just now, shutting THEM out, 6-0. Frank Corridon returns to form, throwing 8 scoreless innings and improving his record to 5-5, with Kontos finishing up the shutout with a scoreless 9th inning. Kluber took the loss, going 6.1 innings and allowing 4 runs.



The first 3 innings were scoreless, but we broke through with a 2-spot in the top of the 4th. An RBI groundout by Cullenbine and an RBI single from Leach. Two innings later in the top of the 6th we got 2 more runs to make it 4-0. This time it was a 2 run Big Fly from Buxton. Top 8 Buxton went deep again with a solo shot to make it 5-0. Top 9 and with 2 outs Cullenbine cracks a solo homer to make it 6-0. Oliver Perez with a fatigue number of 51 was injured in the inning. First time I've seen an injury in a box score, they are printed in yellow. I don't see anything in the box score to indicate how long he will be out.

As usual we go into the third and final game of a series tied at one game apiece and looking to win the series. We are 69-56, hopelessly out of the playoff race 15 games behind the wild card leader, who of course is in our division. The Stars are throwing Sonny Siebert tonight (0-0, 5.63), who was picked up recently when Sandy Koufax was released. We are going with Lou Fiene (0-0, 12.43), spot starting here to give the guys in the rotation an extra day off.

We just lost 6-4 to Northern Stars X, and have now lost 2 out of 3 in our last 3 series. We went 3-6 in 9 division games. Lou Fiene takes the loss, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Alcala got smacked around in relief, and Poncedeleon had to come on to get the final out in the 8th, extending his scoreless streak by a third of an inning. Despite a fatigue score of 100, Siebert went just 4 innings without allowing a run. Yoan Lopez came in and pitched terribly, but ended up with the win.

Al Rosen had 2 hits including a home run, and 2 RBI. Speaker had 3 hits, and Boudreau got his 48th double and 2 RBI.

My goal of 90 wins and a RD of +100 or better are in doubt now after this recent stretch. We need to be 18 games over .500 to be at 90 wins, and we are now just 12 games over with only 36 games remaining in the season. So we need to go 22-14 the rest of the way to get to 90 wins. Our RD is down to just +50 runs.

New series on the overnight as we host Midnight Outfield for 3 games. They have the same record as us, but they are just 2 games out and fighting for a Division title while we are just playing for pride at this point. Again we will face 3 right handed starters. First game MO will be throwing Jack Taylor (20-9, 2.77). We will counter with Jacob deGrom (2-0, 2.87).

Midnight Outfield beats us 8-6 in the series opener. We were down 6-0 and battled back to tie the game after 7 innings, but then we gave up 2 runs right away in the top of the 8th. We have now lost 5 out of our last 6 games. Grimes the win in relief, and Kontos takes the loss. deGrom got shelled.

Sam Crawford's 2 run HR in the 8th was the game winner. Reggie Smith with 3 hits and John Anderson with 2 hits and 2 RBI. Bill Dickey was 3 for 5 with a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBI. Tommy Leach was 3 for 5 with a HR, 2 runs and an RBI. Schofield was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. The hitting was fine, but the pitching failed us.

Rufing goes all the way in a 9-2 romp, ups his record now to 3-0 with an RA of 3.37. Henley takes the loss.

Bonilla homered in the top of the second to give MO a short-lived lead at 1-0. We tied it right away in the bottom of that frame on an RBI single from Hosmer. We went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of then third as Simpson smoked an RBI double to chase home Speaker, who had 4 hits on the day. No scoring in the 4th or the 5th, but bottom 6 we got 2 more on a 2 run hit for Boudreau, 4-1 now.

Bottom 8 now with Grimes in, and we scorched him for 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning, scoring 5 runs in total for the inning to put the game away at 9-1. Boudreau with his 49th double.

Final game of the series his evening, and like the last few series it's 1-1 with this game to decide who wins the series. We've got Sam Leever (4-3, 6.05) going, fresh off a disastrous start last time out where he gave up 10 hits and 5 walks in 6.2 innings. Let's see if he can redeem himself tonight. We will face Bugs Raymond (17-11, 3.67).

Another loss tonight in the final game of a series. That's 4 straight series now that we lost 2 out of 3 games. This time Midnight Oil beat us 6-3. Bugs Raymond gets the win, and Sam Leever gets the loss in another putrid out, 5 ER in 7 innings.

MO grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second and led all the way. Bonilla, Crawford and Anderson each with 2 hits. Boudreau and Hosmer each with 2 of our 5 hits on the day. Somehow we scored 3 runs with just 5 singles and 2 walks to work with.

New series again on the overnight. Three games at LAD. They have lost 8 of 10 and are now 45-84. If we lose a series to these guys now I'll know our team has packed it in. We are down to just 11 games over .500 at 70-59. We will face Tony Gonsolin (2-7, 2.87) in the first game. Roy Mitchell (14-5, 3.31) goes for us.

LAD, the second to worst team in the league just gave us a 9-4 beating. Mitchell got pounded for 14 hits and 8 runs in 6.2 innings and of course took the loss. Ton Gonsolin gave up just one hit in 6 innings to get his third win. We are fast becoming doormats.

Gavin Lux with 3 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI as LAD pounded us for 6 doubles, 9 singles, and drew 5 walks. We got a whopping 6 hits including 2 for Boudreau, one of them being his 50th double of the campaign.

Game 2 of the series Saturday afternoon. We will finally face a lefty, Julio Urias (6-11, 3.34). We are throwing Ray Collins (3-2, 3.86) All of a sudden my starters are taking a long time to get their fatigue back to 100. Collins will be at 99 for that game, and deGrom is scheduled for the next game and he will only be at 96 by then. I can see how we are gonna finish up. We'll be lucky to stay over .500 fopr the season.

HALLELUJAH! - STOP THE PRESSES - THE REBELS WON A GAME

So we avoided being swept by LAD as we beat them 5-1 in the series finale. The score was 5-1, and they did not get that one run until the bottom of the 9th, as deGrom went all the way for the win. Buehler took the loss and fell to 7-11.

We got 2 right away top of the first on RBI singles from Cullenbine and Simpson. No scoring for a while, and then we got 2 more in the top of the 5th on a 2 run homer from Cullenbine. Roy had been quite for a few games, but he's back strong now. We got out final run in the 8th as Dickey scored on a 2 out error by Austin Barnes on a ball hit by Hosmer. Bottom 9 now, and Votto scores on a groundout by Chris Taylor just before Lux flew out to LF to end the game.

1. Jacob deGrom - complete game win, allowed just 1 run.
2. Roy Cullenbine - 2 for 4 with a HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI
3. Tris Speaker - 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.
