Game 70: Bill Madlock has four hits and four RBI, including a bases-loaded double in the first, to help Tommy John to his 10th win of the season, 11-8 over the Red Legs at Fenway. Frank Taveras adds three RBI with a bases-loaded walk and a two-run double.

Game 71: Jerry Mumphrey has four hits and three runs, and Richie Hebner hits his ninth home run as the Riders take the second game of the series, 8-4 at Fenway. John Montefusco pitches respectably but Ron Reed gets the win in relief.

Game 72: Boston gets only one extra base hit, but they bunch their singles effectively, matching Milwaukee's 14 hits but outscoring them 12-10 to avoid a sweep. Lary Sorensen pitches poorly and the bullpen follows suit.

The Riders are off to Atlanta to face Georgia Force.

Game 73: Milwaukee scores four times in both the eighth and ninth innings, turning a close game into an 11-4 laugher, and the Riders take the opener at Atlanta.

Game 74: Surpising Bob Owchinko runs his record to 12-3 at the Riders' expense as Georgia Force beats Milwaukee 8-4. Tommy John takes the loss, dropping to 10-4.

Game 75: John Montefusco lasts into the eighth, allowing only a solo home run, and the Riders take a second straight series, beating Atlanta 8-1.

Cincinnati will visit Milwaukee next as the Riders finally go home.

Game 76: Lary Sorensen allows only an unearned run in eight innings of work and the Riders collect 18 hits as they take the opener, 12-3.

Game 77: Milwaukee scores four in the first, all unearned, and holds on through the end for a 4-3 win. Rich Gossage pitches the ninth to earn his 17th save.

Game 78: Tommy John allows two 2-run homers in the fourth inning and the Riders are helpless against Randy Jones; Cincy wins 4-1 to avoid a sweep.

Milwaukee will close out the first half with a trip to Cleveland (50-28).

Game 79: John Montefusco pitches a complete game 3-hitter and the Riders open the series with a 3-1 win. Montefusco evens his record at 3-3 in a Milwaukee uniform.

Game 80: Rich Gossage suffers his fifth blown save of the season, surrendering a three-run homer to Don Baylor in the eighth, and the Saltdogs rally for a 6-5 win to even the series.

Game 81: Ed Figueroa goes to 8-2 on the season as the Saltdogs close out the first half with a 9-0 shutout of the Riders.

Milwaukee finishes the first half at 42-39, eight games behind Anaheim in the division and seven out of the wild card position.

Tommy John and Rich Gossage make the PL All Star team from the Rider pitching staff while Bill Madlock is selected from the hitters. Larry Hisle leads the team with 14 homers and 55 RBI but could not crack the outfield spots.

Milwaukee starts the second half with a home series against Chicago.

Game 82: Not a good start to the second half as Fergie Jenkins outclasses Tommy John in an 8-4 Goat victory. Silvio Martinez gets the last out for Chicago, earning his 24th save of the season.

Game 83: Rick Burleson hits a grand slam in the ninth inning of Milwaukee's Dave LaRoche to extend a 3-2 lead; Milwaukee scores once in the ninth but falls 7-3, wasting a good performance from John Montefusco.

Game 84: Milwaukee loses its fifth straight, dropping a 4-3 decision to Chicago when John Lowenstein blasts a two-run homer off Rich Gossage in the ninth. It's the seventh blown save of the season for Gossage.

The Riders have interleague sets next with Philadelphia, New York, and St. Louis.

Game 85: New York rallies from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the eighth, then wins it in the 12th on Mickey Rivers' home run, 5-3.

Game 86: Tommy John, better rested for his second post-break start, throws six shutout innings and Richie Hebner homers to help the Riders to a 4-0 win over visiting New York.

Game 87: Philadelphia scores six times over the final three innings, but the Riders rally for four in the ninth, scoring the last one on an error by Pig shortstop Luis Gomez, to pull out a 9-8 win at home.

Game 88: Larry Hisle homers and Lary Sorensen is brilliant for seven innings as the Riders win at Philadelphia 4-3. Rich Gossage has some trouble in the ninth but holds on for his 18th save.

Game 89: Bob Randall is 3-3 with two scored and two driven in, and John Matlack limits the Pi to one run over eight innings, as the Riders beat St. Louis 9-1.

Game 90: Hal McRae has four hits, including three doubles, and four RBI as the Riders sweep St. Louis with an 11-6 win. Tommy John improves to 12-6.

After winning five straight against NL teams, the Riders return to PL competition with a visit from the New York Mammoths (45-45).

Game 91: Milwaukee gets 11 hits but only three runs; Reggie Smith homers off Ron Reed in the 10th to give New York a 4-3 win.

Game 92: Dock Ellis shuts down the Milwaukee lineup and outpitches Lary Sorensen in a 2-1 victory for the Mammoths.

Game 93: Milwaukee is held scoreless until the ninth, then can't make up enough ground, dropping their third straight to the Mammoths by a 5-3 margin.

Milwaukee will host Boston (50-43) next.

Game 94: Milwaukee collects 14 hits, all singles, including four by Mike Ivie, and takes the opener from Boston, 10-6. Tommy John gets the win, his 13th of the season.

Game 95: Milwaukee drops a 6-5 decision in 10 innings to Boston, as Phil Mankowski leads off that frame with a home run off Skip Lockwood. The Riders put two men on base in the bottom half but can't score them.

Game 96: Milwaukee is stymied by Boston's Don Robinson, who pitches a complete game 6-hitter as the Red Legs take the series finale by a 3-1 score.

The Riders travel north to visit Montreal next.

Game 97: Whatever. Former Rider Bill Lee throws six shutout innings against us and Montreal takes the opener, 4-0. Lee has a 3.92 ERA for the Lynchers, though his record is only 2-6.

Game 98: Larry Hisle has four hits and Frank Taveras drives in three runs; Milwaukee survives a four-run ninth inning rally to beat the Lynchers 6-5 and get back to .500.

Game 99: Wayne Nordhagen drives in five runs to help former Lyncher John Montefusco earn a 10-4 win over Montreal. Montefusco is 4-4 with Milwaukee with a 4.98 ERA.

The Riders will host Washington next.

Game 100: Lary Sorensen allows three runs in eight innings, all unearned, and gets his 10th win of the season, 5-3 over the Commandos.

Game 101: Milwaukee gets only three hits, but one is Hal McRae's solo home run. That's enough for Jon Matlack, who pitches a complete game shutout to even his record at 10-10.

Game 102: Dave Laroche allows a two-run homer to Carl Yastrzemski in the eighth and the Commandos rally for a 4-2 win over Milwaukee.

The Riders will host Georgia Force next.

Game 103: Atlanta leadoff man Davey Lopes drives in three runs and Bob Owchinko runs his record to 17-4, beating the Riders 5-3 in the opener.

Game 104: Milwaukee puts some runs on the board, but only after falling hopelessly behind; Atlanta takes their second straight over the Riders, 10-8. Rider starter Lary Sorensen's record, like his team's is back to .500.

Game 105: The suddenly powerless Riders must only one extra base hit, a double, and drop below .500 by dropping a 4-3 decision to the Force.

The Riders head to Cincinnati to face the Steamboats.

Game 106: Tommy John and Rich Gossage combine to shut out the Steamboats, 3-0.

Game 107: Jerry Koosman throws eight shutout innings against the Riders and Cincy evens the series with a 9-0 blowout win.

Game 108: This pitchers' duel goes to 10 innings, where Cincinnati's Jesus Alou doubles home Duane Kuiper with the game-winner. Steamboats win, 2-1.

Milwaukee will host 72-36 Cleveland next.

Game 109: Two straight extra inning losses for the Riders as Cleveland scores twice in the 10th off Ron Reed, getting RBIs from Charlie Moore and Bombo Rivera, to take a 4-2 decision.

Game 110: Rich Gossage blows his eighth save of the season but Larry Hisle bails him out, blasting a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win it, 5-4.

Game 111: Larry Hisle delivers another victory, driving home Len Randle in the bottom of the 10th to beat Cleveland, 4-3.

The Riders head to Chicago to face the Goats.

Game 112: Lary Sorensen tires in the eighth and Rich Gossage gives up a three-run homer to Bobby Bonds, the first batter he faces, as the Goats rally for a 5-3 win. It's Gossage's 10th blown save of the season.

Game 113: Rich Gossage blows yet another save but the Riders escape with a 6-5 victory as Hal McRae drives home the winning run in the ninth.

Game 114: Fergie Jenkins dominates the Riders again, tossing eight scoreless frames as the Goats take the series with a 2-0 win.

Milwaukee heads to New York to face the Mammoths.
