In this scenario, did the 8 whiffers HELP THE TEAM SCORE 4 RUNS?

Yes or no?
How about this. You promise to answer yes or no to my question and I'll answer your's first. Deal?

I've answered your question many, many times. What the team does to overcome a litany of whiffs is what scores runs. The correlation between strikeouts and runs is this:
You don't score when you strikeout.

Untrue.
Runs have scored on strikeouts. Runners can advance. I've seen it.

Hell, I've seen a runner score on an infield fly.

Do you ever WATCH baseball? Probably not.
Considering it's the only thing you have to say, one would suppose that it being true would be important.

One would not know miket, if one supposed that.

Why can't you just say yes or no?

Do you believe that teams score more runs when they strikeout less?

If you can't give me a yes or no, this is pointless.

Wellll.... hardly ever.
(I've never felt like such a nerd. My wife would be proud of this one, though.)

Never?

Back on page 7 of the first thread, it was determined that a poor defensive play could not be a benefit of putting the ball in play. It's only fair that a poor play by the defense is not included during the whiff.
Fair?
2/22/2008 5:54 PM
That's fair. A dropped 3rd strike is not an out.
2/22/2008 5:55 PM
A passed ball or a wild pitch that plates a run on a swing and miss are also poor defensive plays.
2/22/2008 5:58 PM
Therefore, the sake of this argument, a strikeout never helps a team score a run.
2/22/2008 5:59 PM
A run can score on a strikeout even without a wild pitch or a past ball. Runners can also advance.
So: still not never.
Considering it's the only thing you have to say, one would suppose that it being true would be important.

You know Mike, maybe I've been going about this the wrong way.
If you're choosing between two players to put in the lineup with identical lines, with the exception of strikeouts, and you choose to play the guy who makes his outs in play, that's fine.
Nothing wrong with that. It's your choice. And you aren't hurting your team.
Why?
Because you'll score the same amount of runs either way.

It's what you do when you don't strikeout that scores runs. Striking out, in and of itself, does nothing to help you score.

Unless it scores runs or runners move over (which can happen even without poor defensive plays)

And we're back to - an out is an out.
